Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matt Kerr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dmitry Medelev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kerr comes to the cage accompanied by Smash Your enemies - Hatebreed. Medelev has chosen Do It Or Die as his entrance music. Matt Kerr could well score a knockout today. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Kerr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dmitry Medelev! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Medelev tries to clinch but Kerr is having none of it. Medelev tries to close the distance and clinch but Kerr swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Kerr shoots in for a double leg but Medelev sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Medelev wants to clinch. Medelev shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Medelev working over Kerr with some ground and pound. Kerr looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Medelev is working for a kimura but Kerr is defending it quite comfortably.
Medelev has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Medelev thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kerr's head. Medelev prevents Kerr from standing back up.
Kerr is looking to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kerr is trying to stand up here but Medelev is controlling him well. Medelev lands with a punch from half guard. Nice strikes from Medelev there. Medelev is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Kerr has managed to free his arm - good work. Medelev thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Kerr is trying to stand up here but Medelev is controlling him well. Medelev takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Kerr is breathing heavily. Kerr pushes Medelev off looking to stand but Medelev dives back in and keeps control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kerr is looking to get back to is feet but Medelev passes into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Medelev working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Medelev connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Kerr some visible discomfort.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Medelev scores with punches from side control. Medelev lands a strong strike to the head of Kerr. That's dazed him! Medelev looking to finish here. Kerr is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Medelev lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
