Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alan Driver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tijs Verwest (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alan Driver had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alan Driver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tijs Verwest!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Wagner Zegers and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Verwest closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Verwest tries to clinch up.
Tijs Verwest seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Driver drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Verwest is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Verwest keeping moving, preventing Driver from controlling successfully.
Driver might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Driver drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Driver jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Driver trying to control but Verwest is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Verwest working a defensive guard here.
Driver is pushing down on Verwest's leg trying to pass to half guard. Verwest is fighting to maintain full guard but Driver has managed to sneak the leg through.
Verwest gets back to full guard.
Driver wants to control from the top but Verwest keeps moving.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Verwest holds on and takes a little breather.

Verwest has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Driver can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Driver is fighting to break Verwest's control of his arms but Verwest is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Driver trying to control the position from guard on top but Verwest is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Driver is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Verwest gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Driver to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Verwest working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Driver.
Verwest wants to get back to his feet but Driver is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Driver trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Verwest looks gassed!
Driver throwing strikes from guard but Verwest blocks nicely.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Driver postures up in Verwest's guard and throws a big left but Verwest blocks it.

Driver is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Verwest is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Verwest utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Driver gets a takedown into half guard.
Driver thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Driver throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Verwest is not content to let Driver control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Driver throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Driver is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Verwest defends it well.
Verwest is trying to control but can't.
Driver seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Verwest pushes Driver off looking to stand but Driver dives back in and keeps control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Driver changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Verwest looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Driver moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alan Driver dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Verwest shoots and misses

so Driver counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Driver trying to control the position from guard on top but Verwest is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Driver seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Driver has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Driver throwing strikes but missing.
Verwest is breathing heavily.

Driver postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Verwest is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Driver, into his guard.

Driver working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Verwest doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Verwest manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Verwest tries to stand but Driver is controlling from the bottom.
Driver bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Verwest's guard.
Driver postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Driver trying to control but Verwest is working from the bottom.
Driver has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Driver stands and throws Verwest's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Driver passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Verwest!

Driver is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Verwest has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Driver looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Verwest tries to buck Driver off but Driver takes his back!
Driver punches the canvas rather than the man.
Driver misses with a punch to the head.
Verwest tries to escape the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Driver is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Verwest is tapping out! This one is all over!
