PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carraig o Cathain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aiden Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think o Cathain might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to U2 - Pride. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Carraig o Cathain !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aiden Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Bruno Lombardi and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson swings for the body but o Cathain moves out of range.
o Cathain uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Jackson.
Jackson throws a right and a left that o Cathain avoids nicely.
Jackson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but o Cathain manages to avoid it.
The fight stays on the outside here - o Cathain looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

o Cathain feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

o Cathain is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

o Cathain thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
o Cathain stands and throws Jackson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
o Cathain moves into full mount!

o Cathain goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Jackson turns into him and now he's in o Cathain 's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jackson wanted to stand there but o Cathain had control of the position.
Jackson is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Jackson stands and throws o Cathain 's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Jackson decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jackson misses with a double jab.
o Cathain misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
o Cathain wants to clinch.

Jackson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows o Cathain to score an easy takedown into full guard.
o Cathain tries to free his leg and advance position but Jackson is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

o Cathain drops back looking for a leg! Jackson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jackson manages to kick o Cathain off! o Cathain jumps back into Jackson's guard.

Jackson manages to escape and get back to his feet.
o Cathain uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jackson.
Jackson misses with a double jab

and o Cathain counters with a shoot takedown. Jackson fights it but they end up in guard.

o Cathain drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and o Cathain jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
o Cathain passes into half guard.
o Cathain looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

o Cathain is working for an americana but Jackson has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst o Cathain was thinking about the submission.
o Cathain is breathing heavily.
o Cathain is pushing down on Jackson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jackson is fighting to maintain full guard but o Cathain has managed to sneak the leg through.
o Cathain looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
o Cathain is working hard here to advance position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carraig o Cathain dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


No joy there for o Cathain , who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jackson misses with a looping right.
Jackson looks to throw the jab but o Cathain is out of range.
Jackson misses with a combination

and o Cathain counters with a shoot takedown. Jackson fights it but they end up in guard.
o Cathain passes into half guard.

o Cathain wants to work for an arm triangle but Jackson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

o Cathain is working for a submission of some sort.
Jackson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
o Cathain prevents Jackson from getting back to his feet.
o Cathain passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Jackson is trying to improve his position.
o Cathain moves into full mount!
Carraig o Cathain overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

o Cathain jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Jackson is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Jackson and o Cathain has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
o Cathain tries to move into full mount but can't pass Jackson's legs.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jackson gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Jackson squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Jackson is looking to get to half guard.

o Cathain looking for a guillotine from mount but Jackson is having none of it.

o Cathain swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Jackson is now in o Cathain 's guard. A big mistake from o Cathain there, giving up the dominant position!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
o Cathain looking for a sweep. Not yet o Cathain , not yet.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now o Cathain is on top in guard.

Jackson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
o Cathain pushes down on Jackson's leg and manages to get into half guard.
o Cathain works his foot free and advances to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

o Cathain moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Jackson has worked his arm free - good work by Jackson!

o Cathain tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no o Cathain has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Jackson sneaks back into half guard.
Jackson regains full guard. Nicely done.

Jackson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. o Cathain gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carraig o Cathain dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



o Cathain closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jackson to the mat! Jackson manages to get full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
o Cathain stands and throws Jackson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Jackson sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Jackson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jackson.
o Cathain looking to pass the guard.

Jackson is looking to sinch up a triangle. o Cathain throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Jackson's body to avoid the submission. Jackson has instead reached around o Cathain 's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Jackson arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:04 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Aiden Jackson!
