PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between JB Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damir Klobucar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Damir Klobucar struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.0lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. JB Penn has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Klobucar stuffs the takedown.
Penn tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Klobucar throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Penn was covering up waiting for the punch and Klobucar finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Klobucar drops back looking for a leg! Penn is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Penn manages to kick Klobucar off! Klobucar jumps back into Penn's guard.

Klobucar got a little sloppy there for a moment and Penn has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Klobucar has managed to get both his arms back between Penn's legs - danger averted.

Penn has his foot on Klobucar's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Klobucar works his way back into a safe position though.

Klobucar drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Penn manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Klobucar has Penn in his guard.

Klobucar looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Penn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Klobucar swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Klobucar has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Penn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Klobucar looks gassed!

Klobucar working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Penn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Penn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Penn trying to control the position from guard on top but Klobucar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Klobucar had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Penn is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Klobucar Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Penn's back instead.
Penn is trying to break free.
Klobucar is trying to stick to Penn's back but Penn is turning into Klobucar. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Klobucar's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Penn.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Penn trying to control but Klobucar is working from the bottom.
Penn working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Penn shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Klobucar is trying to defend but Penn finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Penn is keen to just control but Klobucar is a slippery customer.

Klobucar is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Penn pulls his head out easily.

Penn seems to be looking for submissions.

Penn moves into full mount! Klobucar won't be happy about that!
Penn moves to the back.

Klobucar tries to escape but Penn has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Penn has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Klobucar tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Penn working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Penn is working for a guillotine from mount but Klobucar frees his head quite easily.
Penn prevents Klobucar from getting the reversal.
Penn lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Penn is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Klobucar can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Klobucar is working to get back to half guard.
Penn scoring with strikes but Klobucar is staying in there.

Penn is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Klobucar doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Penn.

Klobucar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Klobucar is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Penn knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Penn sneaks back into half guard.
Penn trying to control but Klobucar postures up.
Penn misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Klobucar is breathing heavily.

Klobucar drops back, looking for a kneebar! Penn looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Penn looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Penn!
Klobucar is looking for a sweep.

Penn tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Klobucar is looking to reverse the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn is staying tight to Klobucar's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Penn wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Klobucar, who protects the arm well.

Penn wants to control but Klobucar is keeping him busy.
Klobucar manages to get back to half guard.
