PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Juuso Makinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Blitzkrieg Rage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Makinen's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, SMC Hoodrats. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juuso Makinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Blitzkrieg Rage!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rage avoids the head kick by Makinen.

Makinen has Rage up against the cage in a clinch.
Rage throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Rage tries to pull guard but Makinen won't allow it.
Rage throws a knee to the head but misses.

Rage successfully pulls guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Makinen wants to stand but Rage is controlling his posture from full guard.
Rage trying to keep a closed guard but Makinen is proving a slippery customer.
Makinen would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rage pulls Makinen in close to prevent any damage.
Rage wants to stand and escape but Makinen is having none of it.

Rage wriggles free and stands up.
Makinen tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Makinen - that will leave a mark!
Makinen fails with an attempt to clinch.
Makinen fails to land with a series of punches.
Rage circles away from the clinch attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rage looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Makinen clinches up with Rage and pushes him back against the cage.
Rage is trying to drag Makinen to the mat but Makinen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Makinen is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Rage wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rage tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Makinen managing to block the knees to the body from Rage.

Makinen breaks the clinch.

Rage drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Makinen is not content to let Rage control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Makinen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rage on the ground.
Rage scores with a couple of short elbows.

Rage is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Makinen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Makinen wants to get back to his feet but Rage drags him back down.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Makinen throws a head kick but Rage moves out of range.
Makinen ducks under a wild hook from Rage.
Makinen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rage throws a right and a left that both miss.

Rage shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Makinen is breathing heavily.
Makinen is squirming around, avoiding Rage's attempts to control the action.
Rage dominating with strikes here.
Makinen takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Rage controlling the pace for now.

Makinen squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Rage has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Makinen is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Rage has taken his back!
Makinen holding both Rage 's hands and preventing any damage.
Rage is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Rage gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Rage gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Rage apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Juuso Makinen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Rage!

Rage scores with a takedown into Makinen's guard.
Rage sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Rage makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Makinen throws a big shot that misses.
Makinen misses with a head kick.
Rage tries to clinch there but Makinen circles away.
Rage fails to land with a series of punches.
Juuso Makinen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Makinen throws a head kick but Rage moves out of range.
Rage avoids the head kick by Makinen.
Rage gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Makinen.
Makinen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Makinen tries to keep at a distance but Rage has taken the fight into the clinch.

Rage breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Makinen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rage swats him away and circles back towards the center.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rage misses with a head kick.
Juuso Makinen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rage blocks a head kick by Makinen.
Makinen tries a head kick but it misses.
A nice leg kick lands there from Rage.

Rage gets a takedown into half guard.
Rage content to control rather than advance.

Makinen is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rage scores with a couple of nice shots.
Rage slows the pace down in half guard.
Rage stops Makinen from getting back to his feet.

Rage decides to return to a standing position.
Danga de danga de dang - Rage scores with a four punch combination!

Rage has managed to clinch.
Rage is looking to control Makinen's arms but Makinen gets an underhook and turns him. Now Rage has his back to the cage.
Rage goes for a takedown attempt but Makinen pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Rage moves in looking to clinch but Makinen pushes him off.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Makinen.
A solid leg kick lands there for Rage.
Rage moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Makinen moves out of range of the body kick from Rage.
Makinen slaps away a takedown attempt from Rage, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Rage tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Makinen paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Makinen throws a lazy head kick

and Rage counters with a nice double leg into side control. Makinen won't be happy with that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rage controls the position.
Let's hope that Rage has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Makinen is not content to let Rage control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Makinen bucks up and tries to throw Rage off but instead Rage has got his back!
Makinen wants to get back to his feet.
Rage lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Makinen.
Makinen is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Makinen is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Rage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rage throwing damaging strikes from the back! Makinen could be in trouble here!
Makinen holding both Rage 's hands and preventing any damage.
Rage is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Makinen is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Rage just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Blitzkrieg Rage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Rage shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Makinen is looking to get back to is feet but Rage passes into side control.
Makinen wants to get back to his feet but Rage drags him back down.
Rage wants to lay and pray for a moment but Makinen keeps working.
Rage advances to mount.
Makinen is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rage controlling his opponent.
Makinen's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Rage controlling the pace for now.

Despite being in the dominant position, Blitzkrieg Rage just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Makinen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Makinen looks to land a left hand but Rage moved out of range nicely.
Rage lands a nice looking body shot.

Rage throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Makinen was covering up waiting for the punch and Rage finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Rage chips away with some ground and pound.

Rage works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Rage working the head and body with strikes.
Rage is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Rage is pressing down on Makinen's thigh, looking to free his foot. Makinen is holding on for now.
Rage is looking to take a break and control but Makinen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rage is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Makinen pushes Rage off looking to stand but Rage dives back in and keeps control.

Rage is taking a breather. Makinen says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Makinen can't keep his opponent in guard - Rage advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Makinen tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Rage manages to move to mount!
Juuso Makinen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rage with a couple of short strikes.

Rage get's back to his feet.
Rage throws a nice looking combination but Makinen bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Makinen darts in trying to clinch

and Rage counters by moving into the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Blitzkrieg Rage comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Rage winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
