PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Skippy McGee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Skippy McGee was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, James Wilson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Skippy McGee!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Damien Edna and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGee feints and as Wilson raises his hands in defense, McGee changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
McGee wants to pass the guard but Wilson is keeping the position.
McGee wants to get up but he can't break Wilson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Wilson had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. McGee is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Wilson Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take McGee's back instead.

Wilson is persistently looking for the submission but McGee is defending it well.

Wilson is trying to stick to McGee's back but McGee is turning into Wilson. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Wilson's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by McGee.

McGee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wilson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wilson is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

McGee stands up and waves to Wilson to follow him.
McGee throws a right and a left that Wilson avoids nicely.
McGee tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Wilson swivels and escapes.
McGee tries to clinch there but Wilson circles away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from McGee.
McGee shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Wilson sprawls well. Wilson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. McGee gets slowly back to his feet.
James Wilson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Skippy McGee.

and Wilson counters with a shoot takedown. McGee fights it but they end up in guard.
Wilson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wilson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Wilson darts in and clinches McGee up against the cage.

Wilson is trying to trip McGee. He has hold of a leg but McGee is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Wilson persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Wilson is looking to take a break and control but McGee is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Wilson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so McGee is just riding it out for now. Wilson eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Wilson is stalling here. McGee is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Wilson seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and McGee has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Wilson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but McGee manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Wilson has McGee in his guard.

Wilson drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Wilson as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! McGee screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Wilson! Nice submission victory there!
