Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lloyd River (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marlon Olveira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lloyd River!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marlon Olveira!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
River slaps away a takedown attempt from Olveira, before circling back to the center of the mat.
River throws a hook but Olveira avoids it easily.
A head kick misses from River.

River shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Olveira's guard.
River will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Olveira keeping moving, preventing River from controlling successfully.
River lands a couple of digs.
River pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Olveira is keeping the position for now.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Olveira is on top in guard.

Olveira content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Olveira is pushing down on River's leg trying to pass to half guard. River is fighting to maintain full guard but Olveira has managed to sneak the leg through.
River is looking for a sweep. Olveira is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Olveira is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and River defends it well.
River is trying to stand back up but Olveira is controlling him

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Olveira misses with a head shot. River uses the momentum to regain guard.

River has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Olveira can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Olveira tries to stand but River is controlling from the bottom.
Olveira trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Olveira postures up in River's guard and throws a big left but River blocks it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Olveira sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed River's guard.
River is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Olveira is looking to take a break and control but River is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Olveira is stalling here. River is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Olveira seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and River has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
You can see the frustration on Olveira's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
River cracks Olveira with a big elbow.
Olveira tries to get back to half guard but can't.
River creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Olveira sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Olveira misses with a takedown attempt

and River holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
River stalling the fight.

River circles away from the clinch attempt.
Olveira gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

so River counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Lloyd River has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marlon Olveira.
Olveira looks gassed!
River wants to control from the top but Olveira keeps moving.
Olveira trying to control the position.
Olveira wants to get back to his feet but River is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
River throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Olveira works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lloyd River dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


River catches Olveira with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Olveira takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Olveira misses with a two punch combination.
River walks into a jab.
Olveira gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

so River counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
River thows a big elbow that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
River trying to control the position from guard on top but Olveira is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
River keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Olveira's head.
River postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
River is looking to work some ground and pound but Olveira has wrist control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
River trying to control but Olveira is working from the bottom.

Olveira escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. River gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
River is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Lloyd River overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

River throwing strikes but missing.

Olveira is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and River defends well.
River is pushing down on Olveira's leg trying to pass to half guard. Olveira is fighting to maintain full guard but River has managed to sneak the leg through.
River thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Olveira's head.

River is working for a submission of some sort.
Olveira is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Olveira is defending against the submission attempts here by River.
River throwing shots but Olveira is blocking nicely.
Olveira is trying to stand up here but River is controlling him well.
Olveira slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
River stops Olveira from standing up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

River gets the takedown into side control.
River throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Olveira manages to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Olveira is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of River's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take River's back!

River defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Olveira's arms.
Olveira misses with a punch to the head.

Olveira is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. River knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften River for a finish.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
River tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Olveira misses with a head shot.

River is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
River wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Olveira.
Olveira thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Olveira throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for River because Olveira loaded up on that one.
River is looking to improve his position but Olveira isn't that keen on the idea.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Olveira quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Olveira but it's paid off an River is forced to tap! Nice work by Olveira.
