PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jose Luis Cantero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kazuya Kazama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cantero kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is La mandanga. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kazuya Kazama!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Ren Mimura and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kazama misses with a few strikes there.
Kazama stuffs the takedown attempt from Cantero. Cantero gets slowly back to his feet.
Cantero moves out of range as Kazama strikes.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Cantero checks a leg kick.
Kazama is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Kazama, as that shot connected.

Cantero darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Cantero is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kazama sees it coming and defends easily.
Kazama tries to get to full guard but Cantero has control of the leg.

Cantero is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Kazama keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cantero is working for a kimura but Kazama is defending it quite comfortably.
Kazama is looking to get back to is feet but Cantero passes into side control.

Cantero is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kazama knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Cantero tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cantero has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Kazama is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Cantero thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Kazama regains half guard, as Cantero was trying to land strikes.
Kazama is looking to control Cantero's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kazama avoid being mounted?
Cantero wants to control but Kazama is keeping him busy.
Kazama blocking the ground and pound attempt from Cantero.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kazama lands a high kick!
Cantero pivots, looking for a leg kick but Kazama is out of range and Cantero settles back down.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kazama throws a body kick that misses.
Kazama connects with the punch.
Cantero changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kazama tries to avoid it but Cantero manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kazama to the ground. Kazama escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kazama shoots in but no luck this time.
Cantero shoots in and drives through. Kazama sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Luis Cantero. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cantero swats away the attempt to clinch by Kazama.
Kazama doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Cantero counters with a shoot takedown. Kazama fights it but they end up in guard.

Cantero trying to control but Kazama is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kazama tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cantero swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kazama shoots and misses

and Cantero counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Cantero works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Cantero has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Cantero goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Kazama turns into him and now he's in Cantero's guard.
Kazama trying to stand up but can't free himself from Cantero's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cantero is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kazama defends well.

Kazama wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Cantero's closed guard. He's half up but Cantero has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Cantero pivots and extends the arm, Kazama falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Cantero! Well done that man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jose Luis Cantero!
