PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paul Scholes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen In My Head - Jason Derulo as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Scholes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Jones!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Daniel Bishop and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scholes misses with a double jab.
Jones shoots in and drives through. Scholes sprawls well.
Jones misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jones tries to clinch but Scholes is having none of it.

Scholes gets caught flat footed, as Jones shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Jones got a little sloppy there for a moment and Scholes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jones has managed to get both his arms back between Scholes's legs - danger averted.
Jones is fighting to break Scholes's control of his arms but Scholes is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Jones looking to sit in guard and control but Scholes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Scholes from controlling successfully.

Scholes has gone for a leg lock! Jones slips out almost immediately though and dives into Scholes's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Scholes seems keen to control Jones's posture.
Jones wants to control from the top but Scholes keeps moving.
Jones is looking to stand up but Scholes won't let him.
Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jones gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Scholes fails with the takedown.
Jones gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Scholes counters with a right hand to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones misses with a kick to the body

and Scholes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jones's guard.
Jones looks gassed!
Jones is trying to control the position but Scholes postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Scholes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Scholes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Scholes is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Scholes sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jones's guard.
Jones tries to roll over but Scholes keeps him under control.
Jones is trying to stand up here but Scholes is controlling him well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Scholes works his foot free and advances to mount.
Scholes in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Jones is desperately trying to improve his position but Scholes has a good base and remains in mount.
Scholes content just to control the position here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jones throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Jones wants to hold on but Scholes pushes him away.
Scholes wants to control the pace but Jones is squirming around nicely.
Scholes controlling the pace for now.
Jones looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Scholes dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Jones shoots and misses

and Scholes counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Scholes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Scholes has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Jones defend it? Scholes steps over the head and cranks it - Jones is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Scholes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Paul Scholes!
