2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vladamir Petrov! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Petrov fails with a takedown attempt. St Pennianenko fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Petrov manages to avoid it. Petrov decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. St Pennianenko blocking the ground and pound attempt from Petrov. St Pennianenko avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Petrov. St Pennianenko has hold of Petrov's hands but Petrov slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. St Pennianenko is refusing to be controlled, as Petrov sits in half guard. St Pennianenko actively working from the bottom here. Petrov wants to lay and pray for a moment but St Pennianenko keeps working. Petrov not landing any meaningful shots this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. St Pennianenko tries to kick Petrov off but Petrov keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Petrov is keen to just control but St Pennianenko is a slippery customer. Petrov trying to mount his opponent but St Pennianenko defends it.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Petrov is defended easily by St Pennianenko. Petrov shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Petrov was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Petrov throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Petrov tries to control but St Pennianenko wriggling away. St Pennianenko is looking to get to half guard. Petrov is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but St Pennianenko is surviving well by controlling Petrov's body position as best he can. Petrov is landing with some decent strikes but St Pennianenko is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. St Pennianenko avoids a series of strikes thrown by Petrov.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Petrov scores with a couple of good head shots there.
St Pennianenko tries to lock up and control but Petrov gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Petrov in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
St Pennianenko is looking to get to half guard. Petrov wants to control the pace but St Pennianenko is squirming around nicely. Petrov throws some wild stikes that St Pennianenko manages to avoid easily.
Petrov punishing his opponent with strikes. St Pennianenko really wants to buck Petrov off and get back to his feet. Petrov seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but St Pennianenko is holding on tight.
Petrov landing strikes from the mount. St Pennianenko is breathing heavily. Poor strikes thrown by Petrov there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. The referee warns St Pennianenko that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Petrov jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but St Pennianenko manages to avoid the submission attempt. St Pennianenko is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Petrov is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, St Pennianenko has escaped the position, nice work there. Petrov tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Petrov has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Vladamir Petrov dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
St Pennianenko looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Petrov tries to close the distance and clinch but St Pennianenko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. No joy there for St Pennianenko, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A punch combination from St Pennianenko misses. Anderson St Pennianenko is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's one minute gone in the round. St Pennianenko looks to clinch and Petrov counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Petrov works his way into side control. Petrov tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Petrov is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. St Pennianenko knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Petrov working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Petrov is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. St Pennianenko is looking to regain half guard here but Petrov keeps moving and retains side control. St Pennianenko struggling a bit here. St Pennianenko is not content to let Petrov control the position. Petrov swings around for an armbar but St Pennianenko sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Petrov's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Petrov thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. St Pennianenko stands up and waves to Petrov to follow him. Petrov tries to clinch but St Pennianenko is having none of it. Petrov fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. St Pennianenko sprawls well initially but Petrov persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Petrov is pressing down on St Pennianenko's thigh, looking to free his foot. St Pennianenko is holding on for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ground and pound from Petrov.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Petrov controlling the pace. Petrov seems to be working for a kimura but St Pennianenko defends the submission attempt. St Pennianenko wants to control but Petrov is keeping busy and won't allow it. Nice strikes from Petrov there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Petrov lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Petrov has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can St Pennianenko defend it? Petrov steps over the head and cranks it - St Pennianenko is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Petrov!
