The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Juan Carlos shoots for a double leg takedown but fortes sprawls well. He's pushed Juan Carlos's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A right-left combo lands from fortes.

It looks like Don Juan Carlos has been cut.

Juan Carlos steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from fortes. That one must have hurt.

Juan Carlos tries to score a power double leg takedown but fortes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Juan Carlos somewhat.

Juan Carlos forces fortes back against the cage and clinches.
fortes tries to break free but Juan Carlos pushes him back against the cage.
fortes wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Juan Carlos is in a horrible position here. fortes smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
