PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Trent Acid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Coen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Trent Acid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Coen!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Franklyn Lucas and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Acid fails to land the takedown.

Coen shoots in and bounces Acid off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Acid is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Acid had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Coen is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Acid Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Coen's back instead.

Acid working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Coen needs to remain patient if he's going to get out of this sticky situation.
Coen trying to control the position but Acid manages to sink in the hooks.

Acid looking for the choke but no joy.

Coen manages to reverse the position and now he's in Acid's guard. Nice work there by Coen.
Coen postures up in Acid's guard and throws a big left but Acid blocks it.
Coen trying to control the position from guard on top but Acid is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Coen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Acid. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Acid throws his legs up looking for a submission but Coen uses it to pass to side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Coen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Acid keeps working.
The ground and pound from Coen seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Acid sneaks back into half guard.
Coen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Acid is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Coen pulls his head out easily.
Acid is breathing heavily.

Acid looking for submissions off his back.
Coen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Coen sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Coen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Acid's head.
Coen is trying to control. Acid wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Coen has control of Acid's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Acid regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Coen cracks Acid with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Coen looking to control but Acid is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Coen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Acid swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Coen fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Acid gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Coen is looking to take a break and control but Acid is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Acid is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Coen pulls his head out easily.

Coen is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Coen wants to work for an arm triangle but Acid is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Coen tries to clinch but Acid is having none of it.

Acid misses with a hook. Coen ducked under it nicely.

Coen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Acid sprawls well initially but Coen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Acid is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Coen pulls his head out easily.
Coen is keen to just control but Acid is a slippery customer.
Coen not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Acid has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Coen escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Coen!
You can see the frustration on Acid's face as Coen controls the position.
Acid takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Acid is looking for a sweep.
Coen misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Coen is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Dan Coen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Coen tries to clinch but Acid is having none of it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Coen shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Acid is trying to defend but Coen finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Coen lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Acid keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Coen can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Acid is looking to escape.
Acid is looking to improve his position but Coen isn't that keen on the idea.

Dan Coen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Coen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
