PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Nevils (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terrence Buckingham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nevils comes to the cage accompanied by Someday- Flipsyde. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ryan Nevils!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Terrence Buckingham!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buckingham walks into a straight right hand from Nevils.
Nevils will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Nevils is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Buckingham's half guard.
Buckingham blocking the ground and pound attempt from Nevils.
Nevils not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Nevils has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Nevils thows a huge punch but Buckingham dodges it nicely.
Nevils is pressing down on Buckingham's thigh, looking to free his foot. Buckingham is holding on for now.
Nevils is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Nevils is working for a kimura but Buckingham is defending it quite comfortably.

Nevils prevents Buckingham from standing back up.
Nevils trying to mount his opponent but Buckingham defends it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Buckingham gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Nevils counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Buckingham looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nevils is one step ahead there.
Nevils pushing down on Buckingham's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Buckingham wants to control the action here but instead Nevils manages to pass to full mount!

Nevils swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Buckingham is now in Nevils's guard. A big mistake from Nevils there, giving up the dominant position!

Nevils throws his legs up looking for a submission but Buckingham uses it to pass to side control.
Nevils is breathing heavily.
Buckingham is looking to take a break and control but Nevils is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Nevils is looking to reverse the position.
Nevils throws a couple of strikes there.
Buckingham taking a break here but Nevils is having none of it and regains half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Buckingham is trying to control. Nevils wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Nevils works his way to full guard. Good work.

Nevils looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Nevils rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Buckingham moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Nevils attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

Buckingham misses with a takedown attempt

and Nevils counters with a nice double leg into side control. Buckingham won't be happy with that.
Nevils wants to control but Buckingham is keeping him busy.
Buckingham wants to get back to his feet.
Buckingham takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Nevils tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Buckingham sneaks back into half guard.
Nevils missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Buckingham trying to hold on to Nevils's head to control him but Nevils postures up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Nevils in particular looking to stall.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Buckingham is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Nevils jumps into side control!
You can see the frustration on Buckingham's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Nevils lands a nice forearm strike.

Buckingham bucks up and tries to throw Nevils off but instead Nevils has got his back!
I would not like to be Buckingham right now.
Nevils lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Nevils is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Nevils gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Nevils gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Nevils apologises and we restart here on the feet.

A combination from Nevils does no damage.
Nevils throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Nevils misses with the combination.
Nevils will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Nevils uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Buckingham avoids the head kick by Nevils.

Nevils fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Buckingham sprawls well initially but Nevils persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Buckingham is trying to control but can't.
Nevils passes to full mount!
The referee warns Buckingham that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Nevils dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Buckingham closes the distance looking to clinch

and Nevils decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Buckingham's guard.

Nevils scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Buckingham to see if he's OK.

Nevils wants to control but Buckingham is keeping him busy.

Nevils scores with a couple of short elbows.
Nevils lands a nice forearm strike.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Nevils's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Nevils is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Buckingham has escaped the position, nice work there.
Buckingham takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Nevils can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Buckingham is looking to escape.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Nevils working away from the top, dropping strikes.

Nevils lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Nevils is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Buckingham has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Nevils looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Ryan Nevils showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Nevils has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
