Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between PJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Deep (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jim Deep is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, PJ Penn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Deep! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Deep misses with a wild combination.
Penn defending well as Deep loads up on a big left hand. Deep throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Penn showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Deep.
A punch combination from Deep misses. Deep misses the shot to the body. Penn looks to land a left hand but Deep moved out of range nicely. Deep looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Deep throws a right hand that Penn ducks under and follows up with a left that Penn also avoids with ease. Deep misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Deep looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Deep scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Penn has closed the distance and engaged Deep in a clinch.
Penn wants the takedown. Deep is fighting it off but Penn persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Deep's guard against the ropes. Penn's corner is telling him to maintain position. Penn has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Deep working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Penn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Penn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Deep working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Penn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Penn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Deep looks gassed! Penn controls from within his opponent's guard. Penn might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Penn wants to pass the guard but Deep is keeping the position. Deep keeping moving, preventing Penn from controlling successfully. Penn trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Deep wants to sweep but no luck. Penn seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Deep has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Penn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Deep escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Penn gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Deep gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Penn to score an easy takedown into full guard. Penn showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Penn is working Deep over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Deep had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Penn is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Deep Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Penn's back instead. Deep is trying to stick to Penn's back but Penn is turning into Deep. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Deep's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Penn. Penn working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Deep's head. Penn slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Penn slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Penn working the head and body with strikes. Penn is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Deep will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Penn is looking to take a break and control but Deep is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Penn works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Deep tries to improve position but can't. Penn advances to full mount. Deep in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Penn looking to secure an arm triangle but Deep defends it well. Penn lands a heavy elbow. Deep tries to get back to half guard but can't. Penn raining down shots from the mount!
Deep is rocked! Penn postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Deep bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Penn and the fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). PJ Penn!
