PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Madalyn Reid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oedipus Rex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Reid might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to If I can't do it. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Madalyn Reid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oedipus Rex!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Jorge Garcia and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rex has Reid up against the cage in a clinch.

Rex escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Madalyn Reid seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rex looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Reid!
Reid is trying desperately to improve position.

Rex with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Rex working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Reid tries to lock up and control but Rex gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Reid trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Rex stands up from mount. Strange move.
Reid is breathing heavily.
Rex changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Reid tries to avoid it but Rex manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Reid to the ground. Reid escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Reid swings for the body but Rex moves out of range.
Rex blocks a head kick by Reid.
Reid keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Reid throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Reid tries to clinch there but Rex circles away.
Rex circles away from the clinch attempt.
Reid tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Rex counters with a good low kick that Reid was not able to check.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Reid darts in trying to clinch

and Rex counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Reid is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Reid is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rex defends well.
Reid is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Rex won't allow Reid to get back to his feet.
Rex forces his way into half guard.

Rex is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Reid is just riding it out for now. Rex eventually gives up the hold.

Rex decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Rex shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Reid sprawls well. Reid wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rex gets slowly back to his feet.
Madalyn Reid has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Oedipus Rex.
Reid throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Rex avoids a punch combination nicely.

Rex changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Reid looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Rex wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reid keeps working.

Rex tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Rex fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Rex dodges the punch combination from Reid.
Reid keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Oedipus Rex dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Rex looks for a takedown but Reid sprawls well.
Rex moves in looking to clinch but Reid pushes him off.
Rex tries to score a power double leg takedown but Reid sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rex somewhat.
Reid throws a right hand that Rex ducks under and follows up with a left that Rex also avoids with ease.
Reid circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rex is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Reid throws a series of punches but Rex moves out of range.

and Rex counters with a takedown into side control.
Reid gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Reid is staying active underneath Rex, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Rex might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Reid kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Rex passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Reid!

Reid tries to hold on but Rex pushes him away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Reid squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Rex get's back to his feet.
Reid lands a jab.
Rex looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Reid is fending him off so far but Rex persists. Nope, Reid circles away and we're back to standing.

Reid tries to close the distance and clinch but Rex swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Rex shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Reid throws his legs up looking for a submission but Rex uses it to pass to side control.
Rex tries to move into full mount but can't pass Reid's legs.

Reid is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Reid might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Rex wants to control the pace but Reid is squirming around nicely.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rex is going olschool here, as he tries to force Reid to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Reid shrugs it off.

Reid throws a right and a left that both miss.

Rex goes for a takedown in the clinch but Reid prevents it.

Rex keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Reid's efforts to push away.

Reid misses with a wild combination.

Rex shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Reid manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Reid is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rex is aware though and is defending well.

Reid keeping moving, preventing Rex from controlling successfully.

Rex drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rex jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Reid is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Rex dives into side control.
Rex prevents Reid from escaping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Oedipus Rex showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Reid swats away the attempt to clinch by Rex.
Reid scores with a crisp jab that stopped Rex in his tracks.
Reid tries to clinch up but Rex circles away and keeps his distance.

Rex is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Reid's half guard.

Rex postures up and lands a big shot to Reid's brow.

Rex has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Rex is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Reid looks like he's trying to stand up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rex dodges the punch combination from Reid.

Reid shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rex's guard.

Reid is looking to stand up but Rex won't let him.

Reid has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rex is proving hard to escape from.

Reid stands and steps away. Rex gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Reid is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Rex shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Reid as he avoids it easily.

Rex clinches up with Reid and pushes him back against the cage.
Reid gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Rex.
Reid tries to circle away but Rex has him pinned against the cage.
Reid taking a breather.
Oedipus Rex is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Rex breaks the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Madalyn Reid.
I think Rex has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
