The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Baine closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Baine lands in his opponent's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Karpov is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Baine sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Karpov's guard.

Baine frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Baine takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
You get the feeling that Karpov really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Baine is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Baine extends the arm and Karpov is forced to tap!
