Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jack Russell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Liam Igo! The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Aafke Stam and Paul Aken.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Igo shoots for a double leg takedown but Russell sprawls well. He's pushed Igo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Russell scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Russell tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Igo manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Igo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Russell defends it well. Russell has one foot on Igo's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Igo gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Russell to score an easy takedown into full guard. Igo throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Russell stands and throws Igo's legs to the side, diving into side control. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Igo is looking to reverse the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Russell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Igo keeps working. Igo is looking to regain half guard here but Russell keeps moving and retains side control. Igo is not content to let Russell control the position. Russell has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Russell is breathing heavily. Igo tries to clinch up. Russell decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Igo looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Russell trying to control the action but Igo is working from the bottom. Russell is looking to advance position but Igo won't allow it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Igo actively working from the bottom here. Russell is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Igo is just riding it out for now. Russell eventually gives up the hold. Russell could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. The fighters are battling for position here. Igo manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Igo is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Russell rolls with it to try and escape but Igo cranks on the arm and Russell is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
