PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lj Waller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Waller comes to the cage accompanied by cant be touched. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lj Waller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kevin Kim!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Waller tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Waller shoots and misses

and Kim counters with a nice double leg into side control. Waller won't be happy with that.

Kim tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Waller trying to control but Kim flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

Kim has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Waller is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Waller wants to control his opponent's hands but Kim gets his hands free.
Waller has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

Waller looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Kim has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kim looks gassed!

Waller trying to control the hands but Kim breaks the grip.
Good control from Kim.
Waller is trying to break free.
Waller trying to control but not successfully.

Kim is persistently looking for the submission but Waller is defending it well.
Waller manages to reverse the position and now he's in Kim's guard. Nice work there by Waller.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kim wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Waller wants to pass the guard but Kim is keeping the position.
Waller tries to stand but Kim is controlling from the bottom.
Kim trying to control the position.
Kim is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Kim keeping moving, preventing Waller from controlling successfully.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Waller trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Waller shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Kim is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Kim is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Waller with good strikes from the mount here!
Kim slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Kim makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kim.
Kim doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Kim striking off his back but it's not causing Waller any problems.
Kim lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Waller!
Kim tries to control but Waller wriggling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kevin Kim dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Waller with a lazy takedown attempt

and Kim counters with a nice double leg into side control. Waller won't be happy with that.

Kim decides to stand back up. Kim steps back and let's Waller get back to his feet.
Waller gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Kim counters with a nice body kick.

Kim shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Waller's guard.
Kim wants to control from the top but Waller keeps moving.
Kim pushes down on Waller's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Kim not doing much here.
Waller manages to get to full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Waller being controlled here, momentarily.
Kim is breathing heavily.

Waller wants to stand and escape but Kim is having none of it.
Kim pushing down on Waller's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Kim is looking to take a break and control but Waller is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kim frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kim cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Waller is working to get back to half guard.
Kim can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Waller is looking to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kim is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Waller can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Kim looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Waller chipping away with body shots but they're not going to hurt Kim.
Waller has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Waller trying to control the action but Kim just sinks the hooks in.
Kim struggling to land strikes to the head as Waller covers up.

Will Kim go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Waller just trying to survive but Kim is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Kim biding his time, controlling Waller.

Kim controlling the position well here. Waller rolled but Kim kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Waller wants to control his opponent's hands but Kim gets his hands free.
Waller covers up after that shot from Kim.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Kim controlling the positon.
Kevin Kim has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kim punches the canvas rather than the man.

Waller is trying to defend against the choke here but Kim has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Kim Tightens the hold and Waller taps out furiously! Kim displays superior BJJ to win the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kevin Kim!
