Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vinny Russo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ruben Escandon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Escandon comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Knock The Black Off Yo Ass by Three 6 Mafia kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Ruben Escandon is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vinny Russo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ruben Escandon!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russo uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Escandon.
Escandon throws a jab when Russo was well out of range.
Escandon throws a right and a left that Russo avoids nicely.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Russo!
Escandon misses with a body kick.
Escandon throws the left hand but Russo avoids the punch easily.
Ruben Escandon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice takedown defense from Escandon. No joy for Russo on that attempt.

Russo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Escandon was covering up waiting for the punch and Russo finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Russo controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Escandon looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Russo is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Escandon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Russo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Russo wants to control from the top but Escandon keeps moving.
Russo sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Escandon's guard.
Escandon is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Russo's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Russo's back!
Escandon tries to get the hooks in deep but Russo pushed the leg off.
Escandon wants to control but Russo manages to buck him off and is now in Escandon's guard! Nice work there by Russo!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Russo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Escandon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Russo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Russo connects with a couple of short punches.
Escandon preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Russo is pushing down on Escandon's leg trying to pass to half guard. Escandon is fighting to maintain full guard but Russo has managed to sneak the leg through.
Russo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Russo seems to be working for a kimura but Escandon defends the submission attempt.
Russo looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Escandon with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Russo passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Escandon!
Escandon wants to control but Russo is having none of it.

Russo is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Escandon can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Escandon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Russo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Escandon keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Escandon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Escandon wants it to stay on the feet.
Escandon loads up on a big right hand but Russo slips the punch.
Russo connects with a crisp jab.

and Russo counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Russo.

Russo working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Escandon turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Russo off and cradles Escandon's limp body as Russo celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Vinny Russo!
