Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shinya Takata! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Johnson! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Takata swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Takata lands a jab to Johnson's midsection. Johnson checks a low kick from Takata. Takata blocks the body kick.
Takata looks to land a combination but Johnson avoids it well. Takata moves out of range of the body kick. Takata slips a jab from Johnson. Johnson throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Takata counters with a nice uppercut. Johnson takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Takata needs to keep his hands up - Johnson had a free shot at his head there. Takata connects with a looping right hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Takata scores with a nice head shot. Takata works Johnson's body with a nice hook. Takata avoids the head kick by Johnson.

That's one minute gone in the round. Takata drops Johnson with a beautiful combination! Johnson stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Takata is looking for the KO!
Johnson is rocked! Takata shoots for a double leg takedown but Johnson sprawls well. He's pushed Takata's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Takata misses with a series of wild punches.
Takata tries to bum rush Johnson with a series of wild strikes but Johnson uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Johnson walks into a left hand. Johnson checks a low kick from Takata. Nice defenses there by Johnson. Takata jabs at Johnson's body. Takata thows a body shot but no joy. Takata getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Johnson throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Takata lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Takata. Johnson tries to clinch but Takata is having none of it. Takata misses with a hook. Takata throws a jab when Johnson was well out of range. Johnson rushes Takata and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Takata tries to break free but Johnson pushes him back against the cage. Johnson jumps guard.
Takata controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Takata throws a strike but Johnson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Takata is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Takata is looking to stand up but Johnson isn't so interested in that idea. Johnson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Johnson looking to sit in guard and control but Takata gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Takata throwing strikes from guard but Johnson blocks nicely. Takata trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Takata tries to free his leg and advance position but Johnson is retaining full guard. Takata in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Takata dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Takata takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Johnson throws a combination that misses letting Takata counter with a right hand. Takata lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Johnson at a distance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Johnson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Takata was well out of range. Poor timing from Johnson. Nice cross by Takata. Takata throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shinya Takata dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Johnson takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Takata throws a combination that misses and Johnson counters with a flying knee. Nice. Takata throws a hook but Johnson avoids it easily. Johnson looks to throw the jab but Takata is out of range. Takata listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. A cross from Takata lands. Shinya Takata is winning the standup battle so far. Takata takes a kick to the side of the head. Takata lands a jab to the nose. Johnson throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Takata's head. Takata fails to land the takedown. Takata jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Takata here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. Johnson on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Some wild striking there from Takata.
Takata scores with a jab to the body. Jab from Takata. Takata tests Johnson's chin there with a solid looking shot. Takata lands with a nice body punch. Johnson is breathing heavily. Johnson misses with a combination
and Takata counters with a series of strikes. Johnson will be more careful next time no doubt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Johnson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Takata jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Johnson has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye. Takata throws out a loose jab but Johnson uses good head movement to avoid it. Shinya Takata seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Takata connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Takata shoots in for a takedown but Johnson shows good takedown defense. Johnson walks into a straight right hand from Takata. Johnson moves away from the strike by Takata. Takata throws a right hand that Johnson ducks under and follows up with a left that Johnson also avoids with ease. Johnson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A jab lands there for Takata. Takata gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Johnson counters with a nice body kick. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shinya Takata. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Takata defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Johnson. Takata scores with a hook to the body. Johnson takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Takata moves into range and connects with a jab. Takata thows a leg kick but Johnson checks it and Johnson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Takata swinging wilding here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Johnson throws a head kick that misses. Johnson checks the leg kick. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shinya Takata dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Takata throws a jab when Johnson was well out of range. A jab from Takata misses. Takata bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Johnson's head. A head kick misses from Johnson. A big left from Takata misses. Johnson throws a sloppy head kick and Takata moves out of range easily. Takata ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Johnson moves away. Takata dips down and scores with a jab to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Takata throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Johnson on the side of the head. Johnson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Johnson fails to land with a series of punches.

That's one minute gone in the round. Takata keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Takata uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Nice defenses there by Takata. Johnson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Johnson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Johnson takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. A telegraphed right hand from Takata misses the target. Johnson takes one to the chin there. Johnson throws a right and a left that both miss. Takata scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Takata does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Takata listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Takata is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Johnson can do to turn this around?

Johnson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Takata feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Takata scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Takata thows a big elbow that misses. Johnson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Takata throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Takata keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Johnson's head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Takata loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Takata makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Takata accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Takata trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Takata trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Takata looking to sit in guard and control but Johnson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Takata looking to hit a scissor sweep but Johnson is one step ahead there. Jason Johnson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Takata is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson throws a strike but Takata rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Takata got a little sloppy there for a moment and Johnson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Takata has managed to get both his arms back between Johnson's legs - danger averted.
And that's the end of the fight! Shinya Takata showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Takata, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
