Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nick Reeder! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Justin Petruzalek! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Petruzalek connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
It looks like Nick Reeder has been cut. Reeder wants to clinch up but Petruzalek keeps it at a distance. Reeder is looking to clinch. Petruzalek gets the takedown into side control. Petruzalek working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Reeder is looking for a sweep. Petruzalek tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Petruzalek has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Petruzalek tries to move to mount but Reeder blocks the move with his legs. Petruzalek cracks Reeder with a big right hand but Reeder just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Reeder is looking for a sweep. Reeder taking punishment in the form of punches.
Reeder is trying to control Petruzalek's posture but Petruzalek avoids it. Petruzalek is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Reeder knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Reeder knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Petruzalek on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reeder is looking to reverse the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Petruzalek connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Reeder some visible discomfort.
Petruzalek is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Reeder has escaped the position, nice work there. Reeder is trying to get back to half guard. Petruzalek swings around for an armbar but Reeder sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Petruzalek's guard. Petruzalek looks gassed! Reeder scoring with punches to the head and body. Reeder stopping the sweep attempt from Petruzalek. Petruzalek being controlled here, momentarily. Reeder has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Petruzalek wants to sweep here but Reeder controlling him for the moment. Reeder seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Petruzalek working for a triangle but Reeder defends it easily.
Reeder trying to control but Petruzalek is working from the bottom. Petruzalek keeping full guard, as Reeder tries to pass. Petruzalek looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Petruzalek tries to land a sweep but no joy. Reeder trying to control the position from guard on top but Petruzalek is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Petruzalek has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Reeder doesn't defend quickly enough and Petruzalek has managed to lock this one up! Can Reeder escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Petruzalek on a fantastic submission victory.
