Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sam Burgens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Helder Gracies (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Helder Gracies struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sam Burgens! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Helder Gracies! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Felipe Paraventi and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracies has managed to clinch.
Gracies blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Burgens wants a takedown.
Burgens tries to score a body lock takedown but Gracies shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Gracies breaks from the clinch.
Burgens looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gracies is fending him off so far but Burgens persists. Nope, Gracies circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Burgens. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gracies connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Burgens closes the distance looking to clinch and Gracies counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Gracies moves into the clinch. Gracies blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Gracies decides to pull guard. Burgens pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gracies is keeping the position for now. Burgens sitting in guard, not really doing much. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Burgens wanted to stand there but Gracies had control of the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Burgens wants to stand and escape but instead Gracies has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Gracies postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Burgens is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gracies, into his guard. Gracies seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Gracies wants to sweep here but Burgens controlling him for the moment. Burgens has gone for a leg lock! Gracies slips out almost immediately though and dives into Burgens's guard. Burgens is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Burgens wants to stand up but Gracies is controlling him. Gracies stands up from Burgens's guard - Gracies perhaps looking for a knockout.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burgens tries to clinch but Gracies moves away and Gracies cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Gracies scores with a crisp jab that stopped Burgens in his tracks. Burgens has his takedown stuffed and Gracies connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. A lazy body kick from Burgens and Gracies counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. A head kick misses from Burgens. Burgens with a poor takedown and Gracies counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gracies. Gracies breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Burgens gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Gracies counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Burgens is breathing heavily. Gracies has taken the fight to the clinch.
Gracies gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Burgens regains guard.
Gracies lands a couple of elbows.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Burgens is trying to control the position but Gracies postures up. Gracies slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Gracies is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Burgens has escaped the position, nice work there. Burgens gets back to half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Gracies is working for a kimura but Burgens is defending it quite comfortably.

Helder Gracies dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Burgens with a lazy takedown attempt and Gracies holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Burgens blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Gracies. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Burgens has Gracies pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Gracies manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Gracies successfully pulls guard.
Gracies wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Gracies working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Burgens doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Burgens manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Gracies looking for a guillotine here but Burgens defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gracies is breathing heavily. Gracies utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracies had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Burgens is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Gracies Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Burgens's back instead. Burgens is holding onto Gracies's left hand, preventing any choke attempts. Burgens rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Burgens is trying to stand.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Burgens misses with a takedown and Gracies counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Burgens. That's going to take a lot out of him. Burgens tries for a takedown but Gracies circles away easily and Gracies counters with a shoot takedown. Burgens fights it but they end up in guard. Burgens keeping full guard, as Gracies tries to pass. Burgens has his foot on Gracies's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gracies works his way back into a safe position though. Gracies gets to his feet - Burgens follows without any prompting. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Gracies. Burgens fails with the takedown and Gracies counters with a takedown into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burgens manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Gracies wants to get back to full guard. Gracies slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Helder Gracies has got the better of the ground game so far. Gracies trying to keep a closed guard but Burgens is proving a slippery customer.

Burgens is really struggling to control Gracies but he's trying to hold on to the position. Gracies working for a triangle but Burgens defends it easily.

Helder Gracies showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Burgens gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Gracies counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Gracies misses with a head shot. Burgens uses the momentum to regain guard. Burgens is looking to stand up but Gracies isn't so interested in that idea.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracies trying to control the position from guard on top but Burgens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Burgens wants to stand but Gracies is controlling the position. Burgens is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Gracies wants to control from the top but Burgens keeps moving. Sam Burgens has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Helder Gracies is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Burgens has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Gracies is in real trouble here. Burgens gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Gracies is tapping out! Burgens wins by rear naked choke!
