The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Muresan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Paiva swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Muresan is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Muresan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Paiva fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Muresan sprawls well initially but Paiva persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Paiva wants to work for an arm triangle but Muresan is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The fighters are battling for position here. Muresan manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Paiva pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Muresan is keeping the position for now.
Muresan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Paiva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Muresan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Paiva postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Muresan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Paiva, into his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Muresan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Muresan wants to pass the guard but Paiva is keeping the position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Paiva is on top in guard.
Paiva passes Muresan's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Paiva is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Muresan is surviving well by controlling Paiva's body position as best he can.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Paiva jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Muresan is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Muresan and Paiva has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Muresan tries to buck Paiva off but Paiva is having none of it.
You can see the frustration on Muresan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Muresan is looking to regain half guard here but Paiva keeps moving and retains side control.
Paiva has hold of Muresan's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Muresan tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Paiva cranks the arm and Muresan screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Muresan, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
