PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chris Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anton Assault (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ward comes to the cage accompanied by The Champ, Ghostface Killah. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Ward!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Anton Assault !
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, William Gold and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Assault ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ward moves away.
Assault looks to throw the jab but Ward is out of range.
Assault lands a nice looking body shot.
Assault throws a body punch but Ward moves out of range.
Assault throws the left hand but Ward avoids the punch easily.
Assault tries to clinch up but Ward circles away and keeps his distance.
Ward takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Assault thows a left - swing and a miss!
A shot to de liver by Assault . Beautiful body shot.
Ward fails in his attempt to clinch.
Assault scores with a jab to the body.
Assault scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Assault will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Ward is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Assault 's half guard.
Ward is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Assault pushes Ward off looking to stand but Ward dives back in and keeps control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ward is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Assault has managed to free his arm - good work.
Ward is looking to take a break and control but Assault is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Assault is trying to stand back up but Ward is controlling him
Assault wants to stand back up but Ward manages to pass into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ward tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Ward is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ward trying to control the position but Assault is working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anton Assault dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Assault takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Assault thows a left - swing and a miss!
Ward waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Assault .
Ward slips a jab from Assault .
Ward is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Assault drives through and clinches with Ward against the cage.
Ward fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Assault looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Assault tries to break the clinch but Ward is controlling the position.
Assault looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Ward ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Ward no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ward trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Ward wants to sweep here but Assault controlling him for the moment.
Assault really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ward. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ward lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Assault !

Ward trying to control but Assault is having none of it.
Assault is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ward controlling from mount.
Ward throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ward tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Ward dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Assault misses with a wild body shot.
Assault lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Ward keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Assault .
Ward is trying hard to land a takedown here. Assault sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Assault slaps away a takedown attempt from Ward, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ward fails in his attempt to clinch.

Assault gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Ward won't allow Assault to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ward controls from within his opponent's guard.
Assault keeping moving, preventing Ward from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Assault wants to stand and escape but Ward is having none of it.
Ward trying to control the position from guard on top but Assault is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Assault is looking to stand back up but Ward counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Assault .
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ward is trying to control the action in half guard but Assault is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chris Ward showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Ward has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
