Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Brian! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Don Winston! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Valeri Chadov and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brian throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Winston throws a sloppy head kick and Brian moves out of range easily. Winston swings for the body but Brian moves out of range.
Don Winston seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Brian throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Winston's waist but Winston gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brian off to one side. Brian fails in his attempt to clinch. Winston tries a head kick but it misses.
Brian shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Brian shoots in for a takedown but Winston shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Brian. That's going to take a lot out of him. Winston cracks Brian with an open hand slap. Brian is trying hard to land a takedown here. Winston sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Winston avoids the head kick by Brian.
Winston misses with a kick to the body and Brian holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Brian drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Winston gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Brian prevents Winston from breaking the clinch. Winston stops a takedown attempt from Brian.
Winston tries to break the clinch but Brian is controlling the position. Winston has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
That's one minute gone in the round. Winston tries to circle away but Brian has him pinned against the cage. Winston pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Winston is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Brian closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Winston is looking to control Brian's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Winston avoid being mounted? Winston wants to get back to his feet.
Winston is not content to let Brian control the position. Brian is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brian wants to stand but Winston has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Winston wants to get back to full guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Winston can do anything to dispel that myth.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Winston scores with a shot to the body.
Winston scores with a jab to the body. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Winston thuds his shin into the meat of Brian's side.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Winston throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Winston punishes Brian's body with a nice straight punch. Winston misses with a head kick.
Winston drops Brian with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Brian looks back up at him and smiles so Winston waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
It looks like John Brian has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Winston misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Winston explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Winston swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Brian counters with a straight right hand. Winston throws a head kick that misses. Winston with a body punch. A glancing blow. Brian misses with a wild combination.
A solid leg kick lands there for Winston.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Winston swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Winston lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Don Winston is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Winston throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Winston lands a head kick. Brian smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Winston lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Brian shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Winston swings for the body but Brian moves out of range.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Winston jabs at Brian's body. Winston misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Brian takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Don Winston dominated that round. The cut man is working on John Brian's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Brian shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Winston's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Winston can't keep his opponent in guard - Brian advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Brian is trying to control the action in half guard but Winston is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Winston moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Winston keeping moving, preventing Brian from controlling successfully. Brian prevents Winston from getting back to his feet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brian stands and throws Winston's legs to the side, diving into side control. Brian tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Brian has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Winston sneaks back into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Winston keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Winston trying to control from the bottom.
Winston wants to get back to his feet.
Brian is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Winston defends it well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Winston is defending against the submission attempts here by Brian.
Winston has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Winston lands a big head kick that sends Brian tumbling to the mat! Winston takes a step backwards and waves Brian back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Brian is rocked! Winston lands a brutal uppercut that launches Brian off his feet! Brian tumbles to the floor, barely conscious - the referee jumps in to save him from a beating! Wow, what an ending!
