Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dave Dias (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Tate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kevin Tate is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Dias!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kevin Tate!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Russell Pearce and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tate blocks a head kick by Dias.

Dias shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Dias trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Dias trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Tate manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Dias wants to sweep here but Tate controlling him for the moment.
Dias is trying to keep Tate in close.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dias wants to get back to his feet but Tate is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Tate tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Dias shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tate napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Dias stands up and beckons Tate to his feet.
Tate throws a series of punches but Dias moves out of range.

Dias shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Dias showed some decent athleticism there.

Tate is refusing to be controlled, as Dias sits in half guard.

Dias decides to return to a standing position.

Dias darts in and clinches Tate up against the cage.
Tate trying to control the position but instead, Dias has worked for underhooks and has pushed Tate into the cage.

Dias jumps guard and drags Tate to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Dias manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tate manages to get himself to full guard.
Dias throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Tate works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Dias wants to stand but Tate is controlling his posture from full guard.
Dias controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Dias trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dias is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Dias would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Dias wants to control from the top but Tate keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dias tries to free his leg and advance position but Tate is retaining full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dias shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Tate pinned against the cage. Tate gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Tate misses with an uppercut. Dias saw that one coming.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Dias feints and as Tate raises his hands in defense, Dias changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Dias not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Dias would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Dias postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Dias gets to his feet. Tate looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
No joy there for Tate, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kevin Tate seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dias tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Tate is breathing heavily.
Tate throws a head kick but Dias moves out of range.

Dias feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Tate can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dias controls the pace.
Dias knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tate on the ground.

Dias stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Dias shoots in looking for a takedown. Tate tries to sprawl out of it but Dias keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tate manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Some wild striking there from Dias.

Dias closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Tate to the mat! Tate manages to get full guard.
Dias trying to control but Tate is working from the bottom.

Dias decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Tate, up you get!

Dias doesn't manage to clinch there - Tate circles away.
Tate throws a sloppy head kick and Dias moves out of range easily.
Dias will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Dave Dias is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Dias has taken the fight to the clinch.
Tate stops a takedown attempt from Dias.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Dias. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dias tries to score a body lock takedown but Tate shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Dias manages to pull guard.
Dias is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Tate is trying to get back to full guard.

Dias decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Dave Dias overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Dias shoots for a double leg takedown but Tate sprawls well. He's pushed Dias's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Tate throws a right and a left that both miss.
Tate throws a head kick but Dias moves out of range.
Dias misses with a body kick.
Tate avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Tate swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Dias counters with a takedown into side control.
Dias just content to control the position.
Dias throws a strike aimed at the side of Tate's head but Tate avoids it well.
Dias is looking to take a break and control but Tate is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Tate takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Dias is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Tate has escaped the position, nice work there.
Tate is trying to control Dias's posture but Dias avoids it.
Dias works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A lull in the action here as Dias stalls from top position.
Tate gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Dias cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Dias is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Tate has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Dias misses with a head shot.
Kevin Tate has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dias can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Tate is looking to escape.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Dave Dias just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Tate swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Dias counters with a two punch combo.
Dias fails with the takedown.
Dias throws a head kick that misses.
Dias shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Tate sprawls well. Tate wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dias gets slowly back to his feet.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
