Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ronald Murvis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Kernes! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Murvis lands a jab.
It looks like Jay Kernes has been cut. Murvis connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Kernes's hands. Kernes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Murvis as he jumps to the side. Good standup being displayed there by Murvis as he connects with a hook. Murvis lands a glancing blow to the side of Kernes's head. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Murvis lands with an overhand left. Kernes takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Murvis listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Murvis waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Kernes. Murvis gets in close and instigates a clinch. Kernes goes for a takedown in the clinch but Murvis prevents it.
Kernes has clasped his hands together around Murvis's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Murvis wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
That's one minute gone in the round. Murvis throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Murvis pushes Kernes away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kernes gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kernes. Ronald Murvis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Kernes. Kernes fails with a takedown attempt. Murvis fails with an attempt to clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Kernes avoids a punch combination nicely.
Murvis fails to land with a series of punches.
Murvis throws a lazy right hand but Kernes sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Murvis throws a shot from downtown. Kernes moves away and avoids it. Murvis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kernes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Murvis somewhat. Kernes walks into a straight right hand from Murvis.
That has opened up Jay Kernes's cut even more. Murvis throws the left hand but Kernes avoids the punch easily. Murvis is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Kernes drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Kernes throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Murvis. Murvis slaps away a takedown attempt from Kernes, before circling back to the center of the mat. Murvis slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Murvis dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Kernes looks gassed! Murvis throws a jab when Kernes was well out of range. The fight stays on the outside here - Murvis looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Murvis lands with a nice body punch. Left hook, right uppercut from Murvis. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Murvis lands a lovely overhand right.
The cut above Jay Kernes's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Murvis connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Murvis lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Kernes backs up against the cage.
Murvis is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. No joy there for Murvis, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kernes walks into a stiff left hand from Murvis.
Jay Kernes's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters. A combination from Kernes does no damage. Murvis scores with a nice right hand.
Murvis cracks Kernes with an open hand slap. Murvis scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Murvis throws a right hand that Kernes ducks under and follows up with a left that Kernes also avoids with ease. Kernes takes a jab right on the kisser.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Jay Kernes's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:15 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Ronald Murvis!
