Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dylan James!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gutierrez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Gutierrez dives in and grabs James's left leg, looking for a takedown. James pushes down on Gutierrez's head and hops out.

and Gutierrez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in James's guard.
Gutierrez tries to stand but James is controlling from the bottom.

James had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Gutierrez is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. James Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Gutierrez's back instead.

James thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

Will James go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
James has the hooks in. Gutierrez is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Gutierrez really is a fat lump.

James looking for the choke but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gutierrez tries to escape but James has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Gutierrez is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee warns Gutierrez that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

James has hold of Gutierrez's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gutierrez manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Gutierrez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts James as he jumps to the side.
Gutierrez tries to clinch there but James circles away.
James doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Gutierrez counters with a shoot takedown. James fights it but they end up in guard.

Gutierrez postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! James is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gutierrez, into his guard.

James wants to control from the top but Gutierrez keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

James is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
James stands and throws Gutierrez's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gutierrez gets back to half guard.
Gutierrez wants to get back to his feet.

James has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Gutierrez on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
James slips a nice elbow through Gutierrez's hands, connecting with Gutierrez's forehead.
James wants to stand up but Gutierrez has a hold of him and won't allow it.

James passes the guard and advances to mount!
Gutierrez can't escape the position.

James postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Gutierrez looks a forlorn figure.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

James lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Gutierrez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gutierrez tries to get out of the position.
Gutierrez is bucking up trying to escape but James cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

The referee warns Gutierrez that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
James connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Gutierrez tries to hold on but James pushes him away.
Gutierrez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because James is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
James lands a heavy elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Dylan James will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Gutierrez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


James stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and James wants it to stay on the feet.

Gutierrez clinches up with James and pushes him back against the cage.
Gutierrez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. James smiles and moves away.

James tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Luis Gutierrez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gutierrez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Gutierrez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

James is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Gutierrez wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.
Gutierrez controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
James is trying to control the position from the bottom.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

James is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Gutierrez looking to sit in guard and control but James gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as James accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gutierrez controls James momentarily but James frees himself.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Gutierrez scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
James shoots and misses

and Gutierrez counters with a nice double leg into side control. James won't be happy with that.
James manages to get back to half guard.

Gutierrez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and James defends it well.
Still in half guard, Gutierrez seems content to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Luis Gutierrez showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Gutierrez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
