Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Donovan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ben Linus! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Donovan tries to bum rush Linus with a series of wild strikes but Linus uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Donovan tries to close the distance and clinch but Linus swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Linus keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Donovan steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Linus. Donovan shoots in but Linus avoids the takedown attempt easily. Linus moves out of range of the body kick. Donovan fails with an attempt to clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Linus looks like he's thinking about clinching though. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Donovan. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Donovan. That's going to take a lot out of him. Donovan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Donovan fails with an attempt to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Donovan moves in looking to clinch but Linus pushes him off. Donovan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Donovan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Linus fails in his attempt to clinch. Donovan is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Linus stuffs the takedown attempt from Donovan. Donovan gets slowly back to his feet. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Donovan is defended easily by Linus. Ben Linus is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Linus tries to clinch but Donovan is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Donovan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Donovan is breathing heavily. Donovan darts in trying to clinch and Linus makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. A head kick by Donovan misses and Linus counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Linus throws a shot from downtown. Donovan moves away and avoids it. Linus wants to clinch up but Donovan keeps it at a distance. Linus is looking to clinch. Linus feints and then cracks Donovan's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Donovan down. Donovan doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Linus swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Good shot there by Linus.
It looks like Mike Donovan has been cut.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A head kick by Linus - that's a beauty! Donovan is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Linus can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!
