PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Wallid Ismail (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Nolan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nolan has chosen Ice Cream Paint Job-Lil Wayne as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Wallid Ismail!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Robert Nolan!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nolan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nolan lands a jab.
A head kick misses from Ismail.
Nolan throws a body punch but Ismail moves out of range.
Nolan shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ismail sprawls well. Ismail wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nolan gets slowly back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nolan lands a nice shot that snaps Ismail's head back.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ismail misses with a leg kick.

Nolan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ismail napping and manages to drive through into side control!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Nolan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ismail keeps working.
Sloppy strikes there by Nolan.
An elbow from Nolan crashes against the mat.
Nolan working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Ismail parries the strikes from Nolan easily there. Nolan is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Ismail to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ismail takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Nolan looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Ismail is avoiding damage well.
Ismail is trying to improve his position.
Ismail throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Nolan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ismail. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ismail can't do much from the bottom here.
Ismail is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Ismail gets back to full guard.
Ismail looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nolan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Ismail working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nolan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nolan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Nolan stands up from Ismail's guard - Nolan perhaps looking for a knockout.
Nolan throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nolan lands with a hook. Ismail tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nolan blocks a jab.
Robert Nolan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nolan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ismail's waist but Ismail gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nolan off to one side.
Wallid Ismail has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Robert Nolan.
Some wild striking there from Nolan.

Ismail shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ismail showed some decent athleticism there.
Ismail is keen to just control but Nolan is a slippery customer.
Ismail thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Nolan's head.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Nolan is concentrating on defense, preventing Ismail from advancing position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Robert Nolan will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Ismail just misses with a punch to the body.
Ismail shoots and misses

and Nolan counters with a shoot takedown. Ismail fights it but they end up in guard.
Nolan makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Nolan trying to control but Ismail is working from the bottom.
Nolan is looking to stand up but Ismail won't let him.

Ismail looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Ismail keeping moving, preventing Nolan from controlling successfully.

Nolan stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Ismail has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Nolan manages to get his head free but now Ismail has transitioned to an armbar! Nolan grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Ismail! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Wallid Ismail!
