Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shamir Kahn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mario Rua! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kahn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rua but Rua pushes him off and we're back to square one. Kahn looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Rua! A nice elbow there by Kahn. Rua tries to hold on but Kahn postures up. Kahn wants to take Rua's back but he can't do it this time. Kahn is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Rua has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Rua! Kahn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kahn keeping full guard, as Rua tries to pass. Rua sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kahn lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Rua! Kahn sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Rua is squirming around, avoiding Kahn's attempts to control the action. Rua slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Rua is staying active underneath Kahn, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Rua is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Kahn missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Kahn moves into full mount! Rua won't be happy about that! Kahn throwing strikes here but Rua is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Kahn has control of Rua's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Rua regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Rua throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Kahn's head. Kahn is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Kahn gets the takedown into side control. Rua is trying to work for a sweep but Kahn has mounted him! Rua is squirming around, avoiding Kahn's attempts to control the action. Kahn with shots to the head and body - Rua looks very uncomfortable down there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kahn looking to control but Rua is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Rua wants to hold on but Kahn pushes him away. Rua is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Kahn circles away from the clinch attempt and Kahn counters with a shoot takedown. Rua fights it but they end up in guard. Kahn stopping the sweep attempt from Rua. Rua is trying to control the position but Kahn postures up. Kahn throwing strikes but missing. Rua is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Rua looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Kahn throws a strike but Rua rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Kahn is looking for a triangle but Rua pushes his legs off easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kahn works his way to full guard. Good work. Rua wants to pass the guard but Kahn is keeping the position. Kahn trying to keep a closed guard but Rua is proving a slippery customer.
Rua must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Kahn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rua is one step ahead there. Kahn wants to stand but Rua is controlling the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Rua closes the distance but Kahn moves to the side and Kahn counters by moving into the clinch. Kahn prevents a body shot from Rua. Rua working aggressively here.
Kahn is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Rua pulls him back up using the underhooks. Rua tries to land knees in the clinch but Kahn avoids the damage to the body. Kahn breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Let's see what he's got on the mat. Kahn passes Rua's left leg - he's now in half guard. Kahn passes the guard and advances to mount! Kahn trying to control but he's not successful this time. Kahn with good strikes from the mount here! Kahn looking to control but Rua is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Kahn wants to finish this one by submission but Rua is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Kahn.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kahn looking to secure an arm triangle but Rua defends it well. Shamir Kahn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Kahn content just to control the position here. Kahn is landing with some decent strikes but Rua is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Kahn lands a big shot there that rocks Rua but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Kahn feints and as Rua raises his hands in defense, Kahn changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Kahn forces his way into half guard. Kahn landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Rua taking some punishment here, with Kahn in his half guard. Kahn is looking to advance position but Rua won't allow it. Rua wants to control but Kahn passes into side.

Kahn postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rua is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kahn, into his guard. Kahn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kahn manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rua manages to get himself to full guard.

Kahn looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Kahn stands up and beckons Rua to his feet. This has been an exciting period of action! Kahn fails with the takedown.

Kahn feints and as Rua raises his hands in defense, Kahn changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Rua has Kahn pulled in close to control his posture. Rua is trying to hold Kahn in close to prevent damage but Kahn has managed to pass into half guard.
Rua is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Rua punching from the bottom.

Mario Rua has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Kahn throws some wild stikes that Rua manages to avoid easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Rua is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

And that's the end of the fight! Shamir Kahn showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kahn, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
