PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Senki Gudo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikami Teru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gudo comes to the ring accompanied by Money to Blow. Mikami Teru told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Senki Gudo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mikami Teru!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yuuki Gou and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Teru misses with a looping left.
A slow jab from Teru misses its intended target.
Teru misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Gudo shoots in looking for a takedown. Teru tries to sprawl out of it but Gudo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Teru manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gudo throws a wild body kick that Teru sees coming a mile off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gudo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Teru as he avoids it easily.
Teru misses with a body shot.
Gudo lands with a nice body punch.
Gudo clinches up with Teru and pushes him back against the ropes.

Teru is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Gudo misses with a punch on the inside.
Gudo tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Teru just stands there and leans against the ropes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Senki Gudo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gudo breaks from the clinch.
Gudo closes the distance and clinches up with Teru, looking for a takedown. Gudo pushes Teru against the ropes but Teru circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mikami Teru is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gudo avoids the body shot from Teru.
Teru slips under a jab from Gudo.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Teru lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gudo circles away quickly and effectively.
Teru scores with a nice strike.
Gudo tries to clinch up but Teru circles away and keeps his distance.

A jab from Gudo finds it's way through Teru's defenses.
Teru throws a hook but Gudo blocks it.
Teru throws a series of strikes that have Gudo backpedaling.
Teru missing with a left hand there. Gudo was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Teru keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Gudo ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Gudo no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Teru is pushing down on Gudo's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gudo is fighting to maintain full guard but Teru has managed to sneak the leg through.
Teru tries to pass to full mount but Gudo defends it.
Teru wants to stand up but Gudo is controlling the position.
Gudo moves into full guard.
Teru must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gudo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Teru is aware though and is defending well.
Teru wants to stand but Gudo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Teru postures up.

Teru thuds his right hand into Gudo's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Senki Gudo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice straight punches there by Teru. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Teru.
Teru uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Gudo showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Teru.
No joy there for Teru, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Teru is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gudo.
Teru lands a left and a right that send Gudo crashing to the mat, dazed. Teru thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Teru is pressed up against the ropes. Gudo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Teru down to the mat. Teru avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Gudo shoots in for a takedown but Teru shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Gudo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Teru sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gudo somewhat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Teru stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Teru wants it to stay on the feet.

Gudo misses with a takedown attempt - Teru sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Teru rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gudo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Teru keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Oh Gudo is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Teru tries to bum rush Gudo with a series of wild strikes but Gudo uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Gudo seems to have got his legs back now.
Gudo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Teru swivels and escapes.

Teru avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Gudo displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Teru throws out the jab.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mikami Teru showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Gudo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gudo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Teru is pulling down on Gudo's head. It's preventing any offense from Gudo, at least for the moment.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Gudo feints and as Teru raises his hands in defense, Gudo changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Teru wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Gudo working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Teru's head.
Teru is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Gudo chips away with some ground and pound.
Teru really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gudo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Teru is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Gudo loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gudo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Teru tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Teru wants to stand up but Gudo is controlling him.
Gudo wants to pass the guard but Teru is keeping the position.
Senki Gudo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Teru is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gudo tries to clinch but Teru is having none of it.
And that's the end of the fight!
Mikami Teru comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Teru winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
