Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Randy Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Morris Day! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Jorge Garcia and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Day is defended easily by Smith. Day tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Day tries to clinch up but Smith circles away and keeps his distance. Smith looks to land a combination but Day avoids it well. Day shoots in but no luck this time. Day is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Day shoots for a double leg takedown but Smith sprawls well. He's pushed Day's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Randy Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Morris Day. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Day tries to clinch but Smith is having none of it. Day is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Nice takedown defense from Smith. No joy for Day on that attempt. Smith swats away the attempt to clinch by Day.
That's one minute gone in the round. Day shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Day keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Smith moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
It looks like Morris Day has been cut. Day looks gassed! Day fails in his attempt to clinch. Smith really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Day looks to throw the jab but Smith is out of range. Day looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Day tries to clinch there but Smith circles away.
Smith works over Day's head and body with a nice combination. Smith circles away from the clinch attempt.
Day just misses with a punch to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Day tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smith paws at him with a jab and circles away. Smith bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Day is looking for a sweep. Smith trying to control the position but Day is working away. Smith is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Day knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Smith wants to control but Day is keeping him busy. Day is trying to buck Smith off.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Smith taking a breather here. Day is looking to regain half guard here but Smith keeps moving and retains side control. Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Day is defending well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Day is looking to reverse the position. Smith working the head and body with strikes. Smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Smith is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Day is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Randy Smith dominated that round. The cut man is working on Morris Day's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Day tries to clinch up. Day throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Day tries to close the distance and clinch up but Smith swats him away and circles back towards the center. Randy Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Day moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off. Day shoots in and drives through. Smith sprawls well. Day tries to clinch but Smith moves out of range. Day tries to clinch up. Smith circles away from the clinch attempt.
Day is breathing heavily. Smith stuffs the takedown attempt from Day. Day gets slowly back to his feet.

Day shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Smith counters with a three punch combo that has Day backing up. Day nods at Smith to acknowledge the strikes. Day avoids a punch combination nicely.
Smith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Day sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smith somewhat. Day doesn't succeed with the takedown and Smith counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. A right-left combo lands from Smith. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Smith!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith fails to land with a series of punches.
Smith smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Smith circles away from the clinch attempt.
Day doesn't manage to clinch there - Smith circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Smith looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Day misses with a takedown and Smith counters with a one-two to the body. Smith shoots in for a takedown but Day shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Day tries to clinch up. Randy Smith is winning the standup battle so far. Day fails in his attempt to clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Day wants to clinch but Smith slips to the side and Smith cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Day is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Day throws a head kick that misses. Smith shoots for a takedown but Day saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. A right-left combo lands from Smith. Smith lands a jab-cross combination. Smith swats away the attempt to clinch by Day. Day wants to clinch but Smith slips to the side and Smith counters with a three punch combo that has Day backing up. Day nods at Smith to acknowledge the strikes. Day is trying desperately to land a takedown but Smith is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Day. Day fails with a takedown attempt. The fight stays on the outside here - Day looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Smith closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Day did well to prevent Smith getting side control. Day wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.
Smith in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Day tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Smith!
