Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Oscar Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fedor Faber! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Silva working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Silva really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Silva takes a little break here. Faber wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Faber is looking to regain half guard here but Silva keeps moving and retains side control. Silva stands up and beckons Faber to his feet. Faber avoids the body shot from Silva.
Faber with a poor takedown and Silva counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Silva pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Faber is keeping the position for now. Faber wants to stand and escape but Silva is having none of it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Faber looking to control.
Silva is looking to stand up but Faber won't let him. Faber is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Faber keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully. Faber pushes Silva off and scrambles back to his feet.
Faber doesn't succeed with the takedown and Silva counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Faber looks gassed! Faber looking to hit a scissor sweep but Silva is one step ahead there. Faber is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Silva trying to stand up but can't free himself from Faber's guard. Silva will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Faber looking to control.
Silva wants to control from the top but Faber keeps moving. Silva has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Faber is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Silva controlling from the top position. Faber has his foot on Silva's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Silva works his way back into a safe position though. Faber is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Silva is controlling him.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Faber with a poor takedown and Silva holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Oscar Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fedor Faber. Faber's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Silva breaks from the clinch.
Faber moves into the clinch. Faber wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Faber manages to pull guard.
Faber is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Faber uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Faber ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Silva throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Silva has managed to clinch.
Silva has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Faber clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Silva trying to control. A bit of a pause in the action here. Silva controlling the positon.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Silva scores with punches to the body. Silva controls the position. Silva trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Silva scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Faber is looking for a way out. Faber breaks Silva's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Faber is looking to stand up but Silva won't let him. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Silva is on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Oscar Silva dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Faber doesn't succeed with the takedown and Silva counters by clinching up. Faber drags the fight down to the ground.
Silva landing with the ground and pound. Silva gets to his feet - Faber follows without any prompting. Faber looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Silva tries to clinch up and Faber counters with a big head kick but Silva shrugs it off. Silva shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Silva controlling the pace for now. Faber wants to control but Silva is having none of it. Silva goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Faber is on top in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Faber trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Faber makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Silva kicks Faber off and gets to his feet. Silva wants to clinch up but Faber keeps it at a distance. Excellent takedown into side control there by Silva. Silva decides to stand back up. Silva steps back and let's Faber get back to his feet. Silva misses with a hook. Faber ducked under it nicely. Faber misses with a takedown and Silva decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Faber's guard. Oscar Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fedor Faber. Silva preventing the sweep. Faber keeping full guard, as Silva tries to pass.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Faber wants to sweep here but Silva controlling him for the moment. Silva scoring with punches to the head and body. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Silva trying to stand up but can't free himself from Faber's guard. Silva makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Oscar Silva overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Faber seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Faber is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Still in half guard, Faber seems content to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Let's hope that Faber has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Silva won't allow Faber to pass to mount. Faber thows a huge punch but Silva dodges it nicely.
Well, if Faber is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
