Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Elmer Montgomery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deon Du Plessis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Elmer Montgomery! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Deon Du Plessis! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Damien Edna and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Montgomery fails to land with a series of punches.
Montgomery scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Du Plessis drives through and clinches with Montgomery against the cage.

Du Plessis has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Du Plessis gets through Montgomery's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Montgomery scores with a hook to the body. Montgomery is working Du Plessis over against the cage. Montgomery prevents Du Plessis from breaking the clinch. Du Plessis lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Montgomery or not. Du Plessis lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Montgomery works on Du Plessis's body with a couple of short punches. Montgomery has Du Plessis pressed against the cage.
Montgomery's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Montgomery wants to clinch and Du Plessis holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Du Plessis misses with a knee to the head. Du Plessis misses with a body punch.
Du Plessis is trying to break the clinch but Montgomery is controlling him. Montgomery keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Du Plessis's efforts to push away. Montgomery breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Du Plessis has had enough of the clinch but Montgomery keeps him there for the moment. Du Plessis using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Montgomery has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Montgomery working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Du Plessis misses with a punch on the inside.
Montgomery has Du Plessis pressed against the cage, preventing Du Plessis from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Du Plessis cracks Montgomery with a nice body shot. Du Plessis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Montgomery moves away from the strike by Du Plessis. Montgomery lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Montgomery tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Du Plessis counters with a nice uppercut. Du Plessis shoots in for a takedown but Montgomery shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. A lazy left from Montgomery finds it's target. Montgomery lands a jab-cross combination. Du Plessis looks gassed! Du Plessis misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Montgomery takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Du Plessis tries to score with a low kick but Montgomery moves his leg out of the way. Montgomery throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Du Plessis looks to throw the jab but Montgomery is out of range. Montgomery misses with a low kick.
Montgomery loads up on a big right hand but Du Plessis slips the punch. Du Plessis shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Montgomery fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Du Plessis. Montgomery wants to clinch and Du Plessis counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters. Montgomery lands a jab. No joy there for Montgomery, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Montgomery slips under a jab from Du Plessis. Montgomery walks into a stiff left hand from Du Plessis. Nice body punch from Montgomery. Du Plessis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Du Plessis misses the body punch and Montgomery counters with a two punch combo. Montgomery scores with a jab to the body. Montgomery scores with a jab to the jaw.
Du Plessis is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A head kick by Montgomery - that's a beauty! Du Plessis is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Montgomery can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!
