Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, wandeli silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, figgy newton!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
newton slaps away a takedown attempt from silva, before circling back to the center of the mat.

silva has newton up against the cage in a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on silva's face as he tries to break the clinch.

silva manages to break the clinch.

newton closes the distance and clinches.

newton has hold of one of silva's legs. silva is fighting the takedown attempt but newton gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
newton won't allow silva to get back to his feet.

silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. newton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
silva keeping moving, preventing newton from controlling successfully.
newton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
newton has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of silva is proving hard to escape from.
silva might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

silva is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
newton pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
silva jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as newton walks away with a smile on his face. silva gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
newton wants to clinch.
silva tries to score a power double leg takedown but newton sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten silva somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for wandeli silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
silva fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
silva shoots in for a double leg but newton sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
newton will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

newton feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

newton gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
silva is breathing heavily.
newton throws a half hearted mid kick.

newton instigates a clinch.
silva tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. newton smiles and moves away.
silva has his takedown stuffed

and newton counters with a nice double leg into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
newton trying to control but silva is working from the bottom.
newton missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
newton is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

newton looking to sit in guard and control but silva gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
silva looking to pass the guard.
silva stands and throws newton's legs to the side, diving into side control.

silva working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
silva tries to move to mount but newton blocks the move with his legs.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

silva swings around for an armbar but newton sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into silva's guard.
newton trying to control the position from guard on top but silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
newton trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

silva is pressing down on newton's thigh, looking to free his foot. newton is holding on for now.

silva has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can newton defend it? silva steps over the head and cranks it - newton is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for silva!
