The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson tries to clinch but Maia moves out of range.
Thompson throws a nice outside leg kick.
Maia is trying hard to land a takedown here. Thompson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Thompson moves in looking to clinch but Maia pushes him off.
Maia avoids a punch combination nicely.
Thompson doesn't manage to clinch there - Maia circles away.

Thompson pushes Maia up against the cage in a clinch.
Maia can't get the takedown.
Thompson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Thompson lands a knee to the body.
Maia blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Thompson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Thompson drops Maia with a beautiful combination! Maia stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Thompson is looking for the KO!

It looks like Demian Maia has been cut.
Maia is breathing heavily.

Thompson cracks Maia with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Maia looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Thompson finish him?

Maia is rocked!
Thompson throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Oh Maia is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Maia circles away from the clinch attempt.
Maia seems to have got his legs back now.
Thompson tries to clinch there but Maia circles away.

Thompson tries to close the distance and clinch but Maia swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Thompson.
Thompson lands a nice looking kick to the body. Maia takes a step back to recover.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Thompson tries to clinch there but Maia circles away.
Thompson misses with a takedown attempt

and Maia counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Thompson!

Maia working for a guillotine from mount but Thompson is in no mood to give up.
Thompson tries to lock up and control but Maia gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Maia tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Thompson tries to reverse the position but Maia maintains control.
Maia won't let Thompson get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Maia throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Thompson has his hands clasped together but Maia breaks the hold and Thompson is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Maia!
