Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hector Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gerald Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hector Mendez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gerald Rush! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Rush. No joy for Mendez on that attempt. Rush gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mendez to score an easy takedown into full guard. Mendez stops Rush from standing up. Mendez trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Mendez thows a big elbow that misses. Rush manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mendez manages to get himself to full guard.
Rush trying to control but Mendez is working from the bottom. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rush accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Rush's corner is telling him to maintain position. Mendez thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Mendez pulls Rush in close to his closed guard and prevents Rush from doing any damage or advancing position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rush stopping the sweep attempt from Mendez. Rush stands up from Mendez's guard - Rush perhaps looking for a knockout. Mendez looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Mendez tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rush knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Rush tries to get to full guard but Mendez has control of the leg. Mendez trying to control the action but Rush is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mendez sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Rush defending well though. Rush is looking to escape. Mendez trying to pass the guard but Rush defending well. Mendez looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Mendez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mendez fails with the takedown. Mendez with a hook.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendez shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Rush napping and manages to drive through into side control! Rush tries to improve position but can't. Rush looks gassed! Mendez is chipping away with strikes.

Rush is trying to improve his position. Mendez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rush keeps working. Mendez works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Rush takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mendez throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. The ground and pound from Mendez seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. An elbow from Mendez crashes against the mat.
Rush dodges the ground and pound from Mendez. Mendez in side control lands a decent elbow. Mendez tries to score with some ground and pound. Rush controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Mendez trying to control the action but Rush is working from the bottom. Mendez lands an elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hector Mendez dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Mendez scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Rush on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Mendez thows a huge punch but Rush dodges it nicely.
Mendez is looking to pass Rush's guard but actually Rush recovers to full guard. Mendez wants to pass the guard but Rush is keeping the position. Mendez throwing strikes but missing. Mendez connects with a couple of short punches. Rush is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendez working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Rush's head. Rush manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Rush tries to control but Mendez wriggling away. Rush throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Mendez throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Mendez is trying to escape the mount.
Mendez wants to control but Rush is having none of it. Rush wants to control the pace but Mendez is squirming around nicely. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Mendez wants to hold on but Rush pushes him away. Mendez is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Mendez is working hard here to advance position. Mendez holds on to Rush as tight as he can, avoiding damage. Mendez slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendez misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Mendez is trying to get back to full guard. Mendez gets full guard. Mendez tries to strike from the bottom.
Rush throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Rush postures up.
Mendez has control of Rush's left arm, preventing Rush from doing any damage. Rush won't allow Mendez to sweep him here. Mendez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mendez tries to get out of the position. Mendez has momentary wrist control but Rush slips an elbow through the middle. Rush pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mendez is keeping the position for now. Rush stopping the sweep attempt from Mendez.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mendez drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mendez scoring with punches and elbows. Mendez throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Mendez throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Mendez working the ground and pound. Mendez landing a few strikes. Mendez landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hector Mendez dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!
Mendez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rush sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mendez somewhat. Mendez tries to close the distance and clinch but Rush swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Mendez clinches with his opponent.
Mendez lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Mendez will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Rush up against the cage. Mendez could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Mendez is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Rush pulls him back up using the underhooks. Mendez drops down looking for an ankle pick but Rush pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hector Mendez. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mendez is defended easily by Rush. Mendez drives through with a takedown into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendez throwing strikes but missing. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Mendez with a flurry of punches that miss. Mendez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rush swivels though and keeps the full guard. Mendez loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Rush preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Mendez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Rush manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mendez manages to get himself to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Mendez trying to control the position here. Rush postures up in Mendez's guard and throws a big left but Mendez blocks it. Mendez controls Rush momentarily but Rush frees himself. Mendez is working an open guard so Rush takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Mendez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Mendez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rush but Rush pushes him off and we're back to square one. Mendez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rush sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mendez somewhat. Mendez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rush is fending him off so far but Mendez persists. Nope, Rush circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rush scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Mendez manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Mendez missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Mendez trying to control the pace. Mendez wants to take a breather but Rush is having none of it. Mendez thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Mendez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rush does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Gerald Rush has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mendez trying to control the pace. Rush is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Mendez looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Rush taking some punishment here, with Mendez in his half guard. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mendez lands a nice short elbow. Hector Mendez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Mendez lands with a punch from half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Hector Mendez. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mendez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
