Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Benjamin Barkley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maximus Meridius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Benjamin Barkley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Maximus Meridius! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barkley takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Meridius lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Barkley scores a takedown into full mount! Meridius is desperately trying to improve his position but Barkley has a good base and remains in mount. Barkley can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Meridius is looking to escape. Meridius wants to hold on but Barkley pushes him away. Meridius is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Meridius is wriggling around trying to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barkley is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Meridius has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Barkley misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Poor strikes thrown by Barkley there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Meridius wants to control but Barkley is having none of it. Barkley goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Meridius is on top in guard.
Meridius trying to stand up but can't free himself from Barkley's guard. Barkley is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Meridius tries to stand but Barkley is controlling from the bottom. Barkley is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Meridius is aware though and is defending well. Meridius preventing the sweep. Meridius gets to his feet. Barkley looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Barkley is breathing heavily. Nice sprawl there from Meridius as Barkley shoots in. A solid leg kick lands there for Meridius.
Maximus Meridius is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Good leg kick by Meridius there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Meridius turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Meridius throws a sloppy head kick and Barkley moves out of range easily. Barkley wants to clinch. Meridius throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Meridius scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Barkley chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Meridius can pounce on him.
Barkley blocks a head kick by Meridius.
Meridius lands a high kick!
Meridius dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Barkley. That did some damage! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Meridius lands with a slapping head kick.
It looks like Benjamin Barkley has been cut. Meridius connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Barkley steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Meridius. That one must have hurt. Meridius plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Barkley is rocked! Meridius feints and then cracks Barkley's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Barkley down. Oh Barkley is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Look low, kick high! Meridius uses the oldest trick in the book to send Barkley tumbling to the canvas, in a truly brutal knockout! Meridius is absolutely delighted - when Barkley wakes up, I doubt he'll be quite so happy!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Maximus Meridius!
