Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, K Barnett! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sherlock Holmes! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Reed Andrews and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Holmes clinches up with Barnett and pushes him back against the cage. Nice body punch from Holmes. Holmes prevents a takedown attempt there.
Barnett misses with some punches.
Barnett throws a knee to the head but misses.

Holmes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Barnett tries to clinch but Holmes moves out of range. Barnett shoots in for a takedown but Holmes shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Barnett shoots for a double leg takedown but Holmes sprawls well. He's pushed Barnett's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for K Barnett. That's going to take a lot out of him. Holmes tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Barnett paws at him with a jab and circles away. Barnett feints and as Holmes raises his hands in defense, Barnett changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Holmes wants to sweep but no luck. Holmes is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Barnett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Holmes swivels though and keeps the full guard. Holmes has an active guard here but Barnett has managed to pass into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barnett wants to stand up but Holmes has a hold of him and won't allow it. Holmes wants to improve his position but Barnett is controlling well.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Holmes circles away from the clinch attempt enabling Holmes to counter with a crisp jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Barnett misses with a takedown attempt and Holmes counters by moving into the clinch. Barnett is breathing heavily. Holmes has picked Barnett up - he's going for a ride! Holmes dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Barnett is refusing to be controlled, as Holmes sits in half guard. Holmes thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Holmes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barnett keeps working. Holmes sitting and controlling from the half guard. Barnett wants to improve his position but Holmes is controlling well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Holmes trying to control the action but Barnett is working from the bottom. Barnett gets back to full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Holmes is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Barnett keeping full guard, as Holmes tries to pass. Holmes looking to sit in guard and control but Barnett gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Barnett wants to control from the top but Holmes keeps moving. Holmes preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Holmes is looking for a triangle but Barnett pushes his legs off easily.
Barnett stays in close to Holmes's body and controls the position. Barnett loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sherlock Holmes dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Holmes tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Barnett clinches. Holmes has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Barnett regains guard immediately. Barnett keeping moving, preventing Holmes from controlling successfully. Barnett has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Holmes wants to control from the top but Barnett keeps moving. Holmes content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
That's one minute gone in the round. Holmes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Barnett is keeping the position for now. Holmes is breathing heavily. Barnett working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Holmes. Holmes stands up over Barnett, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Holmes throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Barnett trying to control the position.
Barnett wants to get back to his feet but Holmes is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Holmes wants to pass the guard but Barnett is keeping the position. Barnett wants to sweep but no luck.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Holmes scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Barnett doesn't seem bothered though. Barnett closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Holmes pushes Barnett away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Barnett gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Holmes can't do much from the bottom here. Barnett tries for a kimura but Holmes is defending well. You can see the frustration on Holmes's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barnett prevents Holmes from escaping the position. Holmes avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Barnett. Barnett working away.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Barnett shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Holmes counters by clinching up. Holmes can't break the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Barnett takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Holmes works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Holmes trying to stand up but can't free himself from Barnett's guard. Barnett being controlled here, momentarily. Holmes content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Barnett has locked up a guillotine! Barnett's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Holmes is holding on here and Barnett must be using up a lot of energy. Holmes has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Barnett gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
