PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jason Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lance Kingkaid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lance Kingkaid!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson throws a right and a left that Kingkaid avoids nicely.
A big left from Johnson misses.
Johnson misses with the combination.
Johnson tries to bum rush Kingkaid with a series of wild strikes but Kingkaid uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Johnson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet but Kingkaid is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kingkaid pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Johnson is keeping the position for now.

Johnson pushes Kingkaid off and scrambles back to his feet.
Johnson with a poor takedown

and Kingkaid counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Kingkaid not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson is looking to escape.

Johnson kicks Kingkaid off and gets back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johnson shoots and misses

so Kingkaid counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Johnson is breathing heavily.
Kingkaid throws a strike but Johnson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Johnson takes a decent strike to the side of the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Johnson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Johnson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kingkaid is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Johnson, into his guard.
Kingkaid working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Johnson's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kingkaid trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Kingkaid throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Johnson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Kingkaid postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kingkaid is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kingkaid accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kingkaid trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Kingkaid throwing strikes but missing.
Kingkaid throws and elbow that misses. Johnson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kingkaid's guard. Nice move by Johnson!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lance Kingkaid dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kingkaid misses with the combination.
Kingkaid takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Kingkaid scores with a three punch combo!
Johnson throws a combination that misses

and Kingkaid counters with a nice double leg into side control. Johnson won't be happy with that.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kingkaid in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Kingkaid works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Kingkaid postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johnson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Lance Kingkaid has got the better of the ground game so far.
Johnson is looking to escape.
Kingkaid is thwarting Johnson's attempts to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kingkaid throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Kingkaid prevents Johnson from standing back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Johnson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kingkaid sees it coming and avoids it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Johnson throws a combination that misses

and Kingkaid counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Johnson!
Kingkaid can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Johnson is looking to escape.
Kingkaid throws a sloppy strike and Johnson uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Johnson has ended up in Kingkaid's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lance Kingkaid showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Johnson fails with the takedown

and Kingkaid moves into the clinch.
Kingkaid tries to circle away but Johnson has him pinned against the cage.
Kingkaid drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Johnson gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Johnson prevents Kingkaid from breaking the clinch.
Johnson lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Johnson successfully pulls guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Johnson in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Kingkaid tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Johnson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jason Johnson!
