Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Franky MirToH! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mir displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from MirToH. Mir shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. MirToH manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. MirToH preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Mir has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Mir wants to pass the guard but MirToH is keeping the position. MirToH has his foot on Mir's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mir works his way back into a safe position though. Mir postures up in MirToH's guard and throws a big left but MirToH blocks it. Mir prevents MirToH from getting back to his feet. MirToH wants to sweep but no luck. Mir tries to free his leg and advance position but MirToH is retaining full guard. MirToH will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Mir gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. MirToH misses with a takedown and Mir counters by moving into the clinch. Mir manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mir pushes MirToH off and gets back to his feet.
Mir forces MirToH back against the cage and clinches. MirToH decides to pull guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mir stands up over MirToH, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Mir knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for MirToH on the ground. Mir pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. MirToH is keeping the position for now. Mir postures up in MirToH's guard and throws a big left but MirToH blocks it. Mir throws a big right hand that misses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mir tries to stand but MirToH is controlling from the bottom. Mir is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but MirToH has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Mir is looking to defend but MirToH has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Mir! MirToH pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Mir taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:01 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Franky MirToH!
