Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rino Williams! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Javier Alejara! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Emerson Jorge and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alejara throws the kick towards the body but Williams avoids it. Alejara has managed to clinch.
Alejara wants to break free but Williams has control.
Alejara misses with a knee to the head. Alejara pulls guard successfully.
Alejara working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Williams doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Williams manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Williams showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Alejara escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Williams gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Williams has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Alejara looking to sweep here. No luck so far. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Williams accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Williams gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Alejara throws a lazy right hand but Williams sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Alejara throws a push kick but Williams slaps the foot to one side. Williams takes one to the side of the head.
Williams closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Alejara to the mat! Alejara manages to get full guard. Alejara looks gassed! Williams drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Williams jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Williams slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. You can see the frustration on Alejara's face as Williams controls the position. Williams knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alejara on the ground. Alejara is looking to regain half guard here but Williams keeps moving and retains side control. Alejara is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Williams trying to control from half guard but Alejara is working away. Williams is looking to advance position but Alejara won't allow it. Williams thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Williams tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Alejara is looking to escape. Alejara is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Alejara is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Alejara misses with a hook. Williams ducked under it nicely. Alejara avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Williams slips a jab and a cross from Alejara.
Williams shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Williams was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Williams content just to control the position here. Alejara is working to get back to half guard.
Alejara really wants to buck Williams off and get back to his feet. Williams lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Williams with shots to the head and body - Alejara looks very uncomfortable down there. Alejara tries to hold on but Williams postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alejara is wriggling around trying to escape.
Alejara is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Williams in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Alejara wants to control but Williams is having none of it. Williams controlling from the full mount. Alejara is wriggling around trying to escape.

Williams fails with a takedown attempt. Williams changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Alejara tries to avoid it but Williams manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Alejara to the ground. Alejara escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Williams throws a push kick but Alejara slaps the foot to one side. Alejara with a lazy takedown attempt and Williams counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Alejara looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Williams seems to be looking for submissions.
Alejara wants to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alejara is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Williams pulls his head out easily. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Alejara wants to control but Williams is keeping busy and won't allow it. Alejara is trying to get back to full guard. Williams wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alejara keeps working.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Williams avoids the head kick by Alejara.
Williams shoots for a double leg takedown but Alejara sprawls well. He's pushed Williams's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rino Williams. That's going to take a lot out of him. Alejara throws a front kick that sends Williams stumbling back into the cage. Williams wants to clinch up but Alejara keeps it at a distance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Alejara shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Williams defends it nicely. Williams moves out of range of the body kick from Alejara.
Williams swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Alejara misses with a kick to the body and Williams holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Alejara wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Williams tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Alejara smiles and moves away.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Williams displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Alejara throws out the jab. Williams tries to clinch but fails miserably and Alejara counters by clinching up. Alejara pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Alejara closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Alejara is fighting off a takedown attempt but Williams is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Alejara to the mat. Alejara regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Williams throws and elbow that misses. Alejara uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Williams's guard. Nice move by Alejara! Alejara gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Williams closes the distance and clinches. Alejara has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Williams avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Williams jumps guard and drags Alejara to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Williams tries to land a sweep but no joy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alejara trying to control the position from guard on top but Williams is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Williams looking for a sweep. Not yet Williams, not yet. Alejara distracts Williams with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Williams is trying to keep Alejara in close.
Alejara slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Williams doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Alejara stuffs the takedown attempt from Williams. Williams gets slowly back to his feet. Williams tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Alejara paws at him with a jab and circles away. Williams tries to clinch up but Alejara circles away and keeps his distance. Alejara tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Williams displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Alejara throws out the jab. Alejara tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Williams counters by moving into the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Williams pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Williams moves out of range as Alejara throws a body kick.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Williams uses his free foot to push down on Alejara's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Alejara. Alejara is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Alejara is trying to stand. Williams looking to control but Alejara is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Alejara is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Alejara tries to lock up and control but Williams gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Alejara is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Alejara wants to control but Williams is having none of it. Alejara wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back. Alejara is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Alejara manages to reverse the position and now he's in Williams's guard. Nice work there by Alejara.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Williams seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Alejara decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Williams, up you get! Alejara tries to clinch but fails miserably and Williams counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Alejara is lucky that one didn't land flush. Williams throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Alejara's waist but Alejara gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Williams off to one side. Alejara throws a sloppy head kick and Williams counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Rino Williams overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Williams is figuring out what he wants to do next. Williams is thwarting Alejara's attempts to control the position. Alejara is looking to escape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alejara is looking for a sweep. Williams is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Williams blocks the strikes from Alejara.

Alejara landing a few short strikes. Williams is looking to take a break and control but Alejara is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Williams on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Alejara. Alejara obviously looking to wear him down.
Alejara throws a wild body kick that Williams sees coming a mile off. Alejara shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Williams but Williams pushes him off and we're back to square one. Javier Alejara has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Rino Williams is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Williams moves into range and clinches up with Alejara.
And that's the end of the fight! Rino Williams showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Williams, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
