PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kane Kraken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kane Kraken has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Ricky Mason's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricky Mason!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kane Kraken!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mason throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Mason fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kraken, pushing him back against the cage.
Mason misses with a knee to the head.
Mason lands a hook to the side of the head.
Mason is looking to control Kraken's arms but Kraken gets an underhook and turns him. Now Mason has his back to the cage.
Kraken keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Mason's efforts to push away.
Kraken prevents Mason from breaking the clinch.
Kraken wants a takedown but no success here.

Mason's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mason misses with a body kick.
Kraken shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mason defends it nicely.

Mason gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kraken to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Kraken is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mason is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mason has escaped and now he's on top!
Kraken looks gassed!

Mason trying to control but Kraken is working from the bottom.
Mason trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Mason has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mason lands a couple of elbows.
Mason keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kraken's head.
Mason slips nicely into half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Mason throwing shots but Kraken is blocking nicely.
Kraken has hold of Mason's hands but Mason slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Mason is pressing down on Kraken's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kraken is holding on for now.
Mason is nestled in close to Kraken, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Mason is working for a submission of some sort.
Mason trying to control from Kraken's half guard. Kraken has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

Mason trying to control the position from guard on top but Kraken is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kraken wants to sweep but no luck.
Mason wants to control from the top but Kraken keeps moving.

Mason avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mason with a flurry of punches that miss.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mason wants to control from the top but Kraken keeps moving.
Mason makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Mason wants to pass the guard but Kraken is keeping the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mason won't allow Kraken to sweep him here.
Mason missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ricky Mason will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Mason misses with a wild body shot.
Kraken stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mason.
Mason scores with a sloppy right hand. Kraken should have avoided that one.

Kraken shoots in and bounces Mason off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Kraken looking to sit in guard and control but Mason gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mason wants to control from the top but Kraken keeps moving.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kraken looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mason is one step ahead there.
Mason throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Mason wants to control from the top but Kraken keeps moving.
Kraken tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mason content to stall in guard here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A telegraphed right hand from Mason misses the target.
Nice defenses there by Kraken.

Kraken darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Kraken decides to return to a standing position.

Kraken shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Mason is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Kraken seems to be working for a kimura but Mason defends the submission attempt.
Mason wants to get back to full guard.
Kraken wants to pass to mount but Mason is defending the position.
Mason is refusing to be controlled, as Kraken sits in half guard.

Kraken is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mason sees it coming and defends easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kraken seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Kraken is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Kraken is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mason is just riding it out for now. Kraken eventually gives up the hold.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kane Kraken showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Kraken shoots in and drives through. Mason sprawls well.
Mason misses with a series of wild punches.
Mason throws a sloppy head kick and Kraken moves out of range easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mason looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mason is looking to clinch but Kraken is avoiding it.
Kraken moves out of range as Mason throws a body kick.

Kraken fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mason sprawls well initially but Kraken persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mason is defending against the submission attempts here by Kraken.
Mason trying to control but Kraken postures up.

Kraken decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Mason scores with a leg kick.
Kraken avoids the head kick by Mason.
Kraken blocks the body kick.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Kraken shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mason napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Kraken trying to control the position but Mason is working away.

Kraken swings around for an armbar but Mason sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kraken's guard.
Mason wants to pass the guard but Kraken is keeping the position.
Kraken lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Mason!
Kane Kraken has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kraken putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

A nice elbow there by Kraken.

Kraken stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Mason moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Mason throws a hook but Kraken blocks it.
Kraken moves away from the strike by Mason.
Mason tries to close the distance and clinch but Kraken swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Mason throws a wild body kick that Kraken sees coming a mile off.
Mason keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mason misses the shot to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Kraken shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kraken was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Kraken fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Kraken is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Mason can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Kraken looking to control but Mason is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Kraken has hold of Mason's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Mason manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Kraken looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kane Kraken comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kraken has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
