Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Artiom Nevar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brighton Johnston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnston has chosen Billy Ray Cyrus - Achy Breaky Heart as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Artiom Nevar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brighton Johnston!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnston gets a takedown into half guard.

Johnston stands up from half guard.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Johnston.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnston passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Nevar!
Poor strikes thrown by Johnston there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Nevar slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Nevar won't allow Johnston to pass to mount.
Nevar is looking to control Johnston's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Nevar avoid being mounted?
Nevar tries to get to full guard but Johnston has control of the leg.
Nevar is staying active underneath Johnston, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Johnston looks to land a strike but Nevar avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Johnston not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Johnston decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Johnston shoots in for a double leg but Nevar sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Nevar throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Johnston looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Nevar is fending him off so far but Johnston persists. Nope, Nevar circles away and we're back to standing.

and Johnston counters with a single leg into guard. Nevar didn't expect that.
Nevar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Nevar is trying to control the position but Johnston postures up.

Nevar looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Nevar is working hard here to advance position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Johnston closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Johnston lands in his opponent's guard.
Johnston trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Nevar will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Nevar tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Johnston lands a couple of elbows.
Johnston would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Nevar pushes Johnston off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Nevar throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Johnston closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Johnston connects with a nice short shot to Nevar's temple.
Nevar is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Johnston's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Johnston's back!

Johnston looks gassed!
Johnston trying to get back to his feet but Nevar is in full control for now.

Nevar working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Can Johnston hold on?! Nevar is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Johnston breaks Nevar's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Nevar has Johnston pulled in close to control his posture.
Johnston throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Johnston stands and steps away. Nevar gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Nevar tries to reverse the position but Johnston maintains control.

Johnston throws a strike there. Nevar manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.
Nevar makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Nevar.
Johnston must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nevar is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Nevar bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Johnston's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brighton Johnston dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Johnston closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Brighton Johnston has got the better of the ground game so far.
Johnston throwing shots but Nevar is blocking nicely.
Johnston wants to pass to mount but Nevar is defending the position.
Nevar tries to kick Johnston off but Johnston keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnston decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Johnston looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Nevar's corner calls for a 1-2. Nevar obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.


It looks like Brighton Johnston has been cut.
Johnston takes a jab right on the kisser.
Nevar pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Johnston misses with a takedown
and Johnston takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Nevar drops Johnston with a beautiful combination! Johnston stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Nevar is looking for the KO!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nevar lands a big head kick that sends Johnston to the canvas! Nevar follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Artiom Nevar!
