Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeganathan Mondero! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Adri Silva! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight moves into the clinch position. Silva goes for a takedown attempt but Mondero pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Mondero pushes Silva up against the cage in a clinch. Mondero ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mondero no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Mondero avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Silva preventing the sweep. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mondero pulls Silva in close to prevent any damage. Silva must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mondero looking to hit a scissor sweep but Silva is one step ahead there. Silva tries to stand but Mondero is controlling from the bottom. Mondero manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Mondero tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mondero pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Silva takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Mondero is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Silva can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Mondero working for a guillotine from mount but Silva is in no mood to give up. Mondero connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Silva's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Mondero sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Silva defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Mondero. Mondero stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing. Silva shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mondero as he jumps to the side. Silva looks gassed! Silva wants to clinch and Mondero counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Silva tries to pull guard but Mondero holds him up against the cage and eventually Silva drops back down to his feet.
Jeganathan Mondero has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adri Silva. Mondero tightens his grip and picks Silva up, before dumping him to the ground. Silva manages to land in guard. Mondero passes Silva's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Mondero decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Silva tries to clinch and Mondero counters with a two punch combo. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Silva closes the distance looking to clinch and Mondero counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Mondero stands up from Silva's guard - Mondero perhaps looking for a knockout. Mondero drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Mondero has hold of Silva's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Silva seems comfortable defending it but Mondero has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Silva is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Silva is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Mondero couldn't care less - he's delighted!
