Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Montel Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kimmo Haapaniemi!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Konstantin Menshow and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haapaniemi dodges the punch combination from Williams.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Haapaniemi.
Williams gets back to half guard.

Williams looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Haapaniemi is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Haapaniemi wants to pass to mount but Williams is defending the position.
Williams is positioning himself well to prevent Haapaniemi advancing to mount.
Haapaniemi is pressing down on Williams's thigh, looking to free his foot. Williams is holding on for now.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Williams has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Haapaniemi is working away from the top position though.
Williams is trying to get back to full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Haapaniemi throws a quick inside leg kick.
Williams gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Haapaniemi counters with a single leg into guard. Williams didn't expect that.
Haapaniemi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Williams. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Williams not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Williams manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Haapaniemi manages to get himself to full guard.
Williams tries to free his leg and advance position but Haapaniemi is retaining full guard.

Haapaniemi trying to control the position.
Williams trying to control but Haapaniemi is working from the bottom.
Williams lands a couple of digs.
Williams wants to control from the top but Haapaniemi keeps moving.

Haapaniemi has his foot on Williams's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Williams works his way back into a safe position though.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Haapaniemi looks gassed!
Haapaniemi keeping moving, preventing Williams from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Williams goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
An inside leg kick from Haapaniemi misses.
Williams tries to clinch but Haapaniemi moves away

and Haapaniemi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Williams's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Williams throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Williams working for a triangle but Haapaniemi defends it easily.
Haapaniemi trying to control but Williams is working from the bottom.
Haapaniemi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Williams not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Haapaniemi wanted to stand there but Williams had control of the position.
Williams is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Williams has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Haapaniemi should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Williams has tightened it up now! Haapaniemi should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
