Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Paulo Pepper! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Matt Pochettino! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Radbod Blank and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pepper swats away the attempt to clinch by Pochettino. Pochettino displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Pepper. Pochettino leaves Pepper with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Pochettino moves in looking to clinch but Pepper pushes him off. Pepper decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Pepper throwing shots but Pochettino is blocking nicely. Pochettino is looking for a sweep. Pepper is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Pochettino looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Pochettino is trying to get back to full guard. Pepper lands strikes from half guard. Pochettino is trying to stand up here but Pepper is controlling him well. Pepper is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pochettino sees it coming and defends easily. Pochettino is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pepper pulls his head out easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pepper wants to free his trapped foot but Pochettino is holding on for dear life with his legs. Pepper looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Pochettino with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Pepper has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Pepper is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Pochettino is surviving well by controlling Pepper's body position as best he can. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Pepper avoids the attempt from Pochettino to control. Pepper lands with some strikes. Pepper working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Pochettino looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Pepper! Submission of the night perhaps?
