The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pearson misses with a head kick.
A jab from Pearson does it's job there. Pearson wants to clinch up but Melcher keeps it at a distance. Pearson throws a right and a left that Melcher avoids nicely. Pearson scores with a crisp jab that stopped Melcher in his tracks. Pearson looks to land a right hand but Melcher moved out of range. Pearson doesn't manage to clinch there - Melcher circles away.
Melcher keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Pearson. Pearson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Pearson throws a push kick but Melcher slaps the foot to one side. Melcher looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pearson is fending him off so far but Melcher persists. Nope, Pearson circles away and we're back to standing. Melcher cracks Pearson with a good jab. Melcher has closed the distance and engaged Pearson in a clinch.

We're back to striking at a distance. Melcher displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Pearson. Pearson looks gassed! Melcher throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Melcher shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Pearson napping and manages to drive through into side control! Melcher advances to mount. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Melcher fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Melcher looking to control but Pearson is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Melcher is working for a guillotine from mount but Pearson frees his head quite easily.

It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Melcher jumps into side control! Pearson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Melcher wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Melcher wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pearson keeps working. Pearson throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Good shot there by Pearson. Pearson misses with a few strikes there.
Pearson throws a series of punches but Melcher avoids them all with ease. Melcher dives in and grabs Pearson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pearson pushes down on Melcher's head and hops out. Melcher looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Pearson tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Melcher counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Melcher. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pearson is on top in guard.
