PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Kibii Tergat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and SaioG Snake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). SaioG Snake will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Kibii Tergat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, SaioG Snake!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kibii Tergat has Snake up against the cage in a clinch.
Kibii Tergat tries to pull guard but Snake holds him up against the cage and eventually Kibii Tergat drops back down to his feet.

Kibii Tergat has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Snake is trying to keep an underhook but Kibii Tergat manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Snake tries to get to full guard but Kibii Tergat has control of the leg.
Snake is trying to maintain the position but Kibii Tergat is very close to passing his half guard.
Snake is not content to let Kibii Tergat control the position.
Kibii Tergat looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Snake with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kibii Tergat blocks the strikes from Snake.

Kibii Tergat escapes and gets back to his feet.
Snake shoots for a double leg takedown but Kibii Tergat sprawls well. He's pushed Snake's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Snake tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kibii Tergat swivels and escapes.
Kibii Tergat stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kibii Tergat wants it to stay on the feet.
Paul Kibii Tergat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of SaioG Snake.

Snake changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kibii Tergat looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kibii Tergat can't do much from the bottom here.

An elbow from Snake crashes against the mat.

Snake working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Snake tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Snake has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Kibii Tergat wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kibii Tergat struggling a bit here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kibii Tergat is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Snake is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Snake really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kibii Tergat. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Snake thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Kibii Tergat takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Snake trying to control but Kibii Tergat is having none of it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Snake goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Kibii Tergat turns into him and now he's in Snake's guard.

Kibii Tergat decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Kibii Tergat moves into range and clinches up with Snake.
Kibii Tergat looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Kibii Tergat tries to pull guard but Snake won't allow it.
Kibii Tergat tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Snake tries to pull guard but Kibii Tergat holds him up against the cage and eventually Snake drops back down to his feet.

Kibii Tergat fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Snake jumps guard.
Kibii Tergat throwing strikes from guard but Snake blocks nicely.
Snake trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Snake has a closed guard, preventing Kibii Tergat from standing up.
Snake is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Snake keeping moving, preventing Kibii Tergat from controlling successfully.
Snake not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Kibii Tergat dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Snake pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Snake tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kibii Tergat paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kibii Tergat wants to clinch but Snake slips to the side

and Snake counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Snake.
Kibii Tergat controls Snake momentarily but Snake frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Snake throws and elbow that misses. Kibii Tergat uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Snake's guard. Nice move by Kibii Tergat!
Kibii Tergat wants to control from the top but Snake keeps moving.

Snake escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kibii Tergat gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Snake is looking for a triangle but Kibii Tergat pushes his legs off easily.

Snake looking for submissions off his back.

SaioG Snake has got the better of the ground game so far.

Snake wants to get up but he can't break Kibii Tergat's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Kibii Tergat controls Snake momentarily but Snake frees himself.
Kibii Tergat is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

enabling Snake to counter with a crisp jab.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Snake gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Kibii Tergat wants to get back to his feet.

Kibii Tergat wants to control but Snake is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Snake is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Kibii Tergat has one foot on Snake's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

SaioG Snake showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Snake has a takedown stuffed.
Kibii Tergat blocks a head kick by Snake.
Snake is looking to clinch.
Kibii Tergat keeps the fight on the outside.
Kibii Tergat clinches but Snake breaks the clinch
and Snake counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Kibii Tergat shoots in but no luck this time.
Kibii Tergat defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Snake.

Kibii Tergat gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kibii Tergat is pulling down on Snake's head. It's preventing any offense from Snake, at least for the moment.

Snake wants to stand and escape but instead Kibii Tergat has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Kibii Tergat is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Snake has his hands clasped together but Kibii Tergat extends an breaks Snake's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Kibii Tergat.
